Sensory Experiences Questionnaire: Czech Adaptation

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zpracovává téma diagnostických nástrojů pro měření senzorických zvláštností dětí s poruchou autistického spektra. V teoretické části je uveden přehled poznatků o zvláštnostech ve smyslovém vnímání dětí s PAS a přehled nástrojů pro diagnostiku senzorických specifik. Dále je popisován dotazník Sensory Exeperiences Questionnaire a příklady jeho výzkumného použití. Praktickou část tvoří popis adaptace do českého jazyky a popsání psychometrických vlastností české verze dotazníku Sensory Experiences Questionnaire short 2.1. Srovnány jsou výsledky české a americké populace a výsledky českých dětí s PAS a typickým vývojem. Dotazník vyplnilo 79 rodičů dětí s PAS a 59 rodičů dětí s typickým vývojem ve věku 6 měsíců až 6 let. Česká verze dotazníku dosahovala v závislosti na škále hodnot Cronbachovy alfy 0,78-0,91. Rozdíly průměrů českého vzorku oproti hodnotám uvedeným v manuálu dosahují u skupiny dětí s PAS statistické významnosti ve škálách hyporesponzivity, hyperresonzivity, sociálního kontextu a celkového skóre. U skupiny dětí s typickým vývojem není významný rozdíl mezi českou a americkou populací. Vzorek dětí s poruchou autistického spektra dosahoval statisticky signifikantně vyšších výsledků než vzorek dětí s typickým vývojem ve všech porovnávaných škálách dotazníku.

Abstract:

My masters thesis is focused on the diagnostic tools for measuring sensory characteristics for children positioned on the autistic spectrum (PAS children). In the theoretical part there is an overview of findings about differences in sensory functions of PAS children and an overview of tools that diagnose these sensory characteristics. The survey, Sensory Experiences Questionnare, and examples of its usage in research is described later. The practical part consists of the Czech version of the survey, its adaptation and a description of the psychometric characteristics of the Czech version of the Sensory Experiences Questionnaire short 2.1. The results of Czech and American citizens are compared as well as Czech PAS children with children with typical development. The survey was answered by 79 parents of PAS children and 59 parents of the control group. The children were between 6 months and 6 years of age. The Czech version of the survey reached the value of 0,78-0,91 of Cronbach’s alpha. The differences between the mean value of the Czech sample and the values given in the Questionnaire manual are statistically significant for the PAS children, namely in hyperresponsivity, hyporesponsivity social context and the total scores. There is no difference between American and Czech children with typical development. However, the sample of children positioned on the autistic spectrum reached statistically significant results which were much higher than the control group in all characteristics compared in the questionnare.
