Abstract:

Čím dál větší komplexita současných komunikačních sítí a informačních systémů vytváří požadavek na automatizované systémy, které by pomohly operátorovi dosáhnout situačního povědomí a podporovaly jeho schopnost čelit hrozbám. Slibným přístupem se zdá soustředit analýzu na to, jak zachovat misi navzdory hrozbám. Na to potřebujeme vědět, jak je mise postihnuta útočníkem a které akce povedou ke zlepšení její bezpečnost. Tato disertační práce ukazuje autorovo dílo na téma podpory rozhodování s důrazem na zachování mise. Předvedený proces je navržen tak, aby pomohl operátorovi pochopit komplexitu aktuální situace a napomáhá s výběrem reakce na kybernetické útoky. V této práci ukazujeme proces rozhodování s důrazem na zachování mise, který vybere vždy konfiguraci mise, která je nejvíce robustní v dané situaci. Ukazujeme také relevaní výsledky, které mu předcházeli: data model použitý k modelování sítě, model mise ve formě grafu a metodu k určení dopadu útoku na bázi bayesovské sítě. Tato práce je koncipováná jako soubor dvou žurnálových článků a devíti konferenčních článků. Práce jsou vybrány tak, aby prokázaly autorův přínos a vědecké výsledky na téma podpory rozhodování s důrazem na zachování mise.

Abstract:

The rising complexity of today's communications networks and information systems calls for automated systems that would help the operator achieve a cyber situational awareness and support his ability to respond to threats. A promising approach to decision support in network defence is to focus the analysis on how the mission can be achieved despite the presence of threats. To achieve this, it is necessary to know how the mission is impacted by the adversary and what actions will improve the mission's resiliency in face of threats. This doctoral thesis presents the author's work on a mission-centric decision support process. The process is designed to help network and security operators in understanding the complexity of a current security situation. It also helps with decision making concerning ongoing cyber-attacks and threats. In this thesis we present the mission-centric process for selecting the most resilient mission configuration that would withstand the current security situation. We also present all the preceding work on relevant topics: a data model used to model the network, a graph-based mission decomposition model, and a mission-centric attack impact assessment method using logical attack graphs and Bayesian network. This doctoral thesis is organized as a collection of two journal papers and nine conference papers. The papers are selected to show the author’s contribution and research efforts on the topic of decision support in network defence and other relevant topics.
