Spatial Distribution of Diatoms Biomass in NNM Blanice

Abstract:

Abstrakt Oligotorofní toky představují významné ekosystémy z hlediska ochrany biodiverzity vodních společenstev. Proto byla tato práce zaměřena na sledování distribuce biomasy rozsivek ve zvláště chráněném území NPP Blanice (Šumava), vyhlášeným pro ochranu ohroženého sladkovodního mlže perlorodky říční (Margaritifera margaritifera), kde se rozsivková společenstva významně podílí na utváření detritu. Cílem této práce bylo zjistit uspořádání přítomných rozsivkových společenstev a dále podmínky prostředí, které nejlépe vysvětlují produkci biomasy rozsivek. Celkem na 10 profilech, zahrnující řeku Blanici a její 3 přítoky (potoky Spálenecký, Sněžný, Zbytinský), byly instalovány umělé nárostové podklady 4x v období roku 2014. Měřeny byly fyzikálně-chemické parametry, biomasa byla hodnocena na základě chlorofylu a a uspořádání rozsivkových společenstev pomocí světelného mikroskopu. Celkem bylo nalezeno 52 druhů náležející 21 rodům. Druhy zastoupené v nejvyšších početnostech byly Achnanthes minutissima, Fragilaria capucina, Gomphonema parvulum, G. cf productum a Planothidium lanceolatum. Na základě rozložení druhů se profily toků rozdělily do 3 skupin. Druhová diverzita není vyhraněná vůči fyzikálně -- chemickým parametrům ani vůči danému místu. Na uspořádání rozsivkových společenstev má dle RDA průkazný vliv koncentrace celkového fosforu (Pcelk) a N-NH4+, v případě dominantních druhů je však místo Pcelk průkazná závislost na teplotě vody. Množství biomasy se ukázalo být průkazně pozitivně závislé na teplotě a pH vody. Tedy z hlediska fyzikálně-chemických podmínek prostředí, jsou distribuce a množství biomasy rozsivek určovány především teplotou a pH vody a koncentracemi N-NH4+. Na základě výsledků této práce lze dále usuzovat, za jakých podmínek dochází k navýšení či snížení množství biomasy, je však nezbytné brát v úvahu významný vliv dalších charakteristik prostředí spojených s velkým vlivem samotného místa toku. Zároveň některé ze zjištěných dominantních druhů indikují změny chemismu vody přísunem živin do vodního toku, což je viditelné zvláště na lokalitách v blízkosti zdrojů znečištění. Práce obohacuje dosavadní informace o detritu a primárních producentech povodí, jakožto významného článku potravního řetězce v ekosystému.

Abstract:

The oligotrophic streams represent important ecosystems in terms of biodiversity protection of water communities. Therefore, this work was focused on monitoring of the diatom biomass distribution in the specially protected area NPP Blanice (the Bohemian Forest region), which is declared for the aim of protecting endangered freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera), where the diatom communities significantly contribute to the production of detritus. The aim of this study was to examine the diatom communities structure and the environmental conditions, which best explane the production of diatom biomass. Altogether ten study sites were chosen, including the Blanice river and free of its tributaries (streams Spálenecký, Sněžný, Zbytinský), where the artificial growth substrate was installed four-times per study period in 2014. The physical and chemical parameters were measured, the biomass of phytobenthos was assessed by the content of chlorophyll-a and the diatom communities structure was assessed using the light microscopy. A total number of 52 diatom taxa belonging to 21 genera was found. The most abundant species were Achnanthes minutissima, Fragilaria capucina, Gomphonema parvulum, G. cf productum and Planothidium lanceolatum. Based on the species composition, 3 groups of sites were divided. The species diversity is pronounced neither against the physical-chemical parameters nor the concrete site. As the RDA shown, there is a significant effect of the total phosphorus (PT) and the ammonium nitrogene (N-NH4+) concentrations on the diatom communities structure, however for dominant species there is a significant dependence on water temperature instead of PT. The amount of biomass had a significantly positive dependence on the water temperature and pH. Therefore, in term sof physical-chemical conditions of the environment, the distribution of diatom biomass is determined especially by water temperature and pH and the N-NH4+ concentrations. So we can assume in which water conditions the amount of biomass increases or decreases, however it's necessary to consider another characteristics connected with the significant effect of the site itself. Moreover, some of present species indicate chemical changes caused by the supply of nutrients to the water flow, as it is evident especially at sites situated close to sources of pollution. This study enriches the existing knowledge about the detritus and primary producers of the catchment as the important part of the food chain in this ecosysthem.
