Origin of slope instabilities in the Western Carpathians area

Abstract:

Cílem předložené bakalářské práce bylo provést dokumentaci současného stavu vybraných svahových nestabilit v oblasti příkrovů Západních Karpat a určit hlavní faktory podílející se na jejich vzniku. Pro studium byly vybrány sesuvy Brňov a Oznice, které se nacházejí v okrese Vsetín. Teoretická část popisuje druhy sesuvů, obecné příčiny svahových pohybů a shrnuje podmínky vzniku sesuvů Oznice a Brňov. Práce obsahuje rešeršní část z publikovaných prací i z nepublikovaných archivních prací, výsledky vlastního terénního šetření a zpracování mapových a satelitních snímků v programovém prostředí QGIS (3.30.1). Pro vlastní hodnocení byly použity mapy sklonitosti, aspekt svahu, digitální model reliéfu a geologická mapa 1 : 25 000. Proložení mapy aspektu svahu geologickou mapou umožnilo identifikovat svahy s podobnými vlastnostmi, u kterých lze předpokládat zvýšenou náchylnost ke vzniku sesuvů. V širším okolí již zmíněných sesuvů bylo nalezeno celkem 45 svahů, které vykazovaly podobný aspekt svahu a stejnou litologii jako sesuvy Oznice a Brňov. U všech nalezených svahů byla provedena analýza profilu svahu.

Abstract:

The aim of the submitted bachelor's thesis was to document the current state of selected slope instabilities in the area of the Western Carpathians and determine the main factors contributing to their occurrence. Landslides in Brňov and Oznice, located in the Vsetín district, were selected for the study. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the types of landslides, general causes of slope movements and summarizes the conditions for the occurrence of the Oznice and Brňov landslides. The thesis includes a research section based on published studies as well as unpublished archival materials, the results of the author's field investigation, and the processing of maps and satellite images in the QGIS (3.30.1) software. Slope inclination maps, aspect maps, digital elevation models, and a geological map at a scale of 1:25,000 were used for the analysis. Overlaying the aspect map with the geological map enabled the identification of slopes with similar properties as Brňov and Oznice landslides have, indicating increased susceptibility to landslides. In the broader vicinity of the mentioned landslides, 45 slopes were found that exhibited a similar aspect and the same lithology as the Oznice and Brňov landslides. An analysis of the slope profiles was performed for all identified slopes.
