Contemporary Proper Names of Restaurants, Pubs, Cafes and Bars in Brno

Abstract:

Předmětem diplomové práce je onomastická analýza názvů současných brněnských restaurací, hospod, kaváren a barů. Hlavním cílem práce je získaná data rozdělit do kategorií podle předem zadaných kritérií. Při klasifikaci jsou v první fázi názvy rozděleny na české a cizojazyčné, obě skupiny se pak ještě dále dělí. U českých názvů je rozhodující struktura a motivace pojmenování, u cizojazyčných jazyk, z něhož vycházejí. Součástí práce je i rozsáhlý slovník, který obsahuje všechna analyzovaná data. U názvů, kde bylo možno zjistit motivaci pojmenování, je zde tato motivace uvedena.

Abstract:

The subject of this diploma thesis is an onomastic analysis of the names of contemporary restaurants, pubs, cafes and bars in Brno. The major aim of the work is to classify the obtained data into two categories according to the criteria defined beforehand. In the first phase of the classification, the names are divided according to their origin into the Czech and foreign groups. Both of the groups are further subdivided. The decisive features of the Czech names are their structure and motivation of their naming, whereas for the foreign names the most important feature is the language in which they originate. A part of the thesis is created by an extended dictionary which contains all of the data analysed. Where it is possible, the names are provided with the description of their naming motivation.
