Abstract:

Predmetom diplomovej práce je odlišný ekonomický vývoj v Indii a Číne po tom, čo obe krajiny uskutočnili rozsiahle ekonomické reformy v 80. a 90. rokoch minulého storočia. Cieľom práce je zistiť, prečo aj napriek podobným východiskovým podmienkam India trvalo ekonomicky zaostáva za Čínou. Práca najprv popisuje východiskové podmienky oboch krajín, porovnáva výkonnosť ekonomiky pred a po realizovaní reforiem a bližšie predstavuje najdôležitejšie reformné kroky prijaté ako v Indii, tak aj v Číne. Posledná časť textu je venovaná identifikácii dôvodov ekonomického zaostávania Indie za Čínou.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with divergence in economic development in India and China, after both countries pursued extensive economic reforms during the 1980s and 1990s. The aim of the thesis is to figure out why India keeps falling behind China in terms of economic performance, despite sharing similar initial conditions before implementing the reforms. Firstly, we illustrate initial conditions in each respective country, then compare their economic performance before and after undertaking the reforms and finally, we showcase some of the most important areas of the Indian and Chinese reform. The rest of the thesis is dedicated to identifying reasons of India's long-term lagging behind China.
