Effect of game on structure and production of spruce forest stands in altitudal gradient in northern part of PLA Jeseníky

Abstract:

Škody ohryzem a loupáním výrazně ovlivňují stabilitu a produkci lesních porostů. Cílem práce bylo získat poznatky o struktuře a produkci smrkových [Picea abies (L.) Karst] porostů ve výškovém gradientu v oblasti polesí Domašov a obecních lesů Bělá pod Pradědem s akcentem na škody zvěří. Výzkum proběhl na 16 trvale výzkumných plochách nacházejících se v nadmořské výšce od 590 do 1 120 m n. m. v severní části CHKO Jeseníky. Z výsledků vyplývá, že počet stromů se pohyboval ve smrkových porostech ve věku okolo 55 let v rozmezí 578–1 911 ks/ha a zásoba porostů v rozmezí 323–866 m3 /ha. Z hlediska škod zvěří, v průměru 87,7 % stromů z celkového počtu bylo v porostech poškozeno ohryzem a loupáním. Signifikantně největší rozsah poškození stromů (38,4 % obvodu kmene) byl zjištěn v porostech v nadmořské výšce nad 1 000 m n. m. oproti níže položeným polohám. Se zvyšujícím se obvodovým poškozením se signifikantně snižovala tloušťka, výška a objem stromů. Při porovnání silně poškozených a zdravých jedinců ztráta na objemové produkci dosahovala až 63 %. Obecně s nadmořskou výškou se dále snižovala průměrná tloušťka, výška a zásoba porostů, přičemž se zvyšoval počet stromů, vertikální a celková diverzita porostu. Z důvodů velmi vysokého tlaku zvěře je zejména nutné redukovat její stavy na ekologicky únosnou mez, optimalizovat políčka pro zvěř a přezimovací obůrky, vhodně přikrmovat či podporovat reintrodukci vlka v zájmové oblasti. Velmi důležitá je však harmonizace lesnického a mysliveckého managementu, aby nedocházelo při vysokých škodách způsobených jednak ke ztrátám na produkci, ale také kvůli sekundární hnilobě k rozpadům smrkových porostů v důsledku snížené stability.

Abstract:

Game damage caused by bark stripping significantly affects the stability and production of forest stands. The aim of the thesis was to obtain knowledge about the structure and production of Norway spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst] stands in an altitude gradient in the area of Domašov and Municipal Forests Bělá pod Pradědem with an emphasis on game damage. The research was conducted to 16 permanent research plots located at an altitude of 590 to 1 120 m above sea level in the northern part of the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area. The results show that the number of trees in Norway spruce stands around the age of 55 ranged from 578 to 1 911 pcs ha-1 and the stand volume ranged from 323 to 866 m3 ha-1 . In terms of game damage, on average 87.7% of the trees in the total number were damaged by bark stripping in the forest stands. Significantly the largest extent of tree damage (38.4% of the trunk circumference) was found in stands at altitudes above 1 000 m above sea level compared to the stands with lower altitude. With increasing circumferential damage, the diameter, height and volume of the trees decreased significantly. When comparing heavy damaged and healthy tree individuals, the loss in volume production reached up to 63%. In general, with altitude, the average diameter, height and stand volume decreased further, while the number of trees, vertical and overall diversity of forest stands increased. Due to the very high pressure of game, it is necessary specially to reduce game population to an ecologically tolerable limit, optimize the fields for game and overwintering enclosure, appropriately feed or support the reintroduction of the wolf into the area of interest. However, the harmonization of forest and hunting management is very important, because high game damage caused not only losses in timber production, but also reduced stability of spruce stands due to secondary stem rot.
