Abstract:

Práce se zabývá příčinami idealizace samurajského etického kodexu bušidó v knize Inazó Nitobeho Bushido: The Soul of Japan. Má za cíl především zasadit knihu do historického kontextu doby jejího vzniku, a poukázat na to, že idealizace bušidó v Nitobeho díle není primárně dána autorovou neznalostí japonské historie. Idealizace vychází z cílů, jež měl text za dané historické situace splnit, tj. představit původní japonský etický kodex, který by v očích Západu dosahoval stejných kvalit jako křesťanství a pomohl tak pozvednout Japonsko na úroveň západní civilizace i po stránce etické

Abstract:

The thesis deals with Inazo Nitobe's book Bushido: The Soul of Japan, and with the causes of idealization of the ethical code of the samurai as described in it. The main goal of the thesis is to analyze Nitobe's book in the context of its historical origin and to point out that the idealization of bushido is not caused primarily by author's lack of knowledge of the history of Japan. It argues, that this idealization was a natural and necessary pre-requisite for achieving Nitobe?s goals: to introduce an original Japanese code of ethics, one that could compare respectably with Christianity, thus elevating Japan ethically to the same level as western civilization
