Benefits of canistherapy on the part of the canistherapist and the person, who takes care of the canistherapys client

Anotace:

Cílem práce je nabídnout informace, které by mohly přispět k posílení zájmu psychologů a psychoterapeutů o možnostech využití psa v aplikovaných psychologických oborech. Autorka k tomu využívá jednak informace o takových možnostech využití psa v zahraničí, jednak prezentuje vlastní získané informace o využívání psa v péči o lidské zdraví v České republice. Zatímco v zahraničí existuje odborná literatura, jednotná terminologie, vypracované metodiky terapie za pomoci psa, vědecké výzkumy, legislativní úprava a zastřešující organizace, v Česká republice se toto vše postupně vytváří teprve od roku 1993, kdy bylo téma poprvé otevřeno. Ze zahraničních zkušeností práce uvádí zejména metody intervencí za pomoci psa a dále informuje o několika výzkumných studiích ověřujících účinnost terapie za pomoci psa. Informace o možnostech využívání psa v péči o lidské zdraví v České republice byly pro tuto práci získány výzkumem pomocí dotazníku. Autorce se podařilo získat spolupráci reprezentativního vzorku dvou skupin klíčových respondentů - canisterapeutů a osob pečujících o klienty canisterapie. Patrně dosud největší realizovaný výzkum na uvedené téma nabízí konkrétní statistické výsledky o přínosech využívání psa v péči o lidské zdraví. Výzkum identifikoval konkrétní přínosy canisterapie a zjistil pořadí jejich důležitosti. Výzkum rovněž identifikoval konkrétní přínosy canisterapie pro několik cílových skupin klientů canisterapie pro něž byl získán dostatek údajů. Poskytl první komplexnější obraz o situaci canisterapie v České republice, včetně údajů o účastnících výzkumu, spolupracujících canisterapeutických psech a hlavních současných problémech canisterapie. Výsledky by mohly naznačit cestu, jak využít psa i v aplikovaných psychologických oborech. V práci jsou uvedeny nejen výsledky, které byly cílem její výzkumné části, ale jsou také široce diskutovány nedostatky výzkumu. Tato diskuse poskytuje významné informace pro budoucí výzkumné studie obdobného rozsahu.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to provide information which may promote interest of psychologists and psychotherapists in the opportunities of the utilization of a dog in the branches of applied psychology. The author exploits foreign sources of information concerning the utilization of a dog in applied psychology, in combination with more specific information regarding the utilization of a dog in the health care in the Czech Republic, which was collected during the author's research. Abroad, we can find broad range of information including literature, unified terminology, dog using methods of therapy (dog - assisted intervention – so called canistherapy), legislative frameworks and specific organizations dedicated to the abovementioned issue, while in the Czech Republic this theme have emerged since 1993 and therefore is still in progress. Following the foreign experiences, the paper provides basic insight in the various dog - assisted methods of therapy and about effectiveness of this approach as a whole. Crucial information about the utilization of a dog in the health care in the Czech Republic were gathered using questionnaire research, which comprised two representative samples of respondents – so called canistherapists and persons nursing canistherapists' clients. Probably being the largest field research so far, it provides tangible statistic results about the benefits of the utilization of a dog in the health care. Research identified the various benefits of canistherapy and ranked their importance, taking into account position of target groups of canistherapy clients as well. Concurrently, thesis provides first complex illustration of canistherapy in the Czech Republic, including information about the participants of the research, their dogs and current problems of this kind of therapy. Final conclusions can provide draft proposal for further utilization of a dog in applied psychology. Indeed, deep discussion about possible shortcomings of the research is included as well, which may provide significant background information for future similar research.
