Alterations of the standard genetic code

Abstract:

Práce popisuje nejen historii výzkumu a samotné vlastnosti genetického kódu, ale hlavně odchylky od standardního genetického kódu a teorie týkající se jejich vzniku. Největší pozornost je věnována změně významu CUG kodonu u patogenní kvasinky Candida albicans, což je jedna z nejvýraznějších odchylek v jaderném genomu. Zároveň se zabývá transformací proteomu, kterou způsobuje změna fenotypu. Tato schopnost může mít totiž vliv i na patogenitu a odolnost této kvasinky vůči stresu.

Abstract:

The thesis describes the history of research and properties of genetic code, as well as the deviations from standard genetic code and the theories concerning their origin. Most attention is dedicated to the change in the CUG codon translation in Candida albicans, the most significant deviation in nuclear genome. It also deals with the transformation of proteome, which causes a change in phenotype. This property may influence pathogenicity and stress resistence of this yeast.
