Concept of ritual purity and conpcept of kegare during the Enlightenment in Western literature.

Abstract:

Tématem této práce je rituální čistota a nečistota. Cílem práce je poukázat na současné problémy související s tímto fenoménem, zejména na problematiku teorie rituální čistoty a nečistoty a její definice. Tato práce se zaměřuje především na koncept kegare považovaný v západní literatuře za rituální nečistotu náboženství šintó v Japonsku. Vzhledem k problematické konceptualizaci náboženství šintó v západní literatuře, na kterou poukazuje současný výzkum religionistiky, předpokládá výzkumná hypotéza této práce, že koncept kegare v západní literatuře není na teologii neutrální koncept. Rozborem teologického pojetí rituální čistoty a nečistoty tato práce ukazuje východiska křesťanských misionářů šestnáctého století a předpoklady, se kterými do Japonska přicházeli. Z analýzy děl osvícenských badatelů a jejich charakteristiky konceptu kegare vyplývá nekritické přejímání znalostí o kegare od křesťanských misionářů šestnáctého století. Kvůli nekritickému přejímání utvořili osvícenští badatelé ze znalostí o kegare neutrální fakta a přisoudili jim neteologický kontext.

Abstract:

The theme of this thesis is ritual purity and impurity. The aim of this work is to highlight current problems associated with this phenomenon, especially point out the issues of theory ritual purity and impurity and its definitions. This thesis primarily focuses on the concept of kegare considered in Western literature as ritual impurity of Shinto religion in Japan. Regarding the issue of conceptualization of Shinto religion in Western literature which highlight current research of religious studies, assumes the hypothesis of this thesis that concept of kegare is not in Western literature on theology a neutral concept. By the analysis of theological conception of ritual purity and impurity this thesis shows resources of Christian missionaries from sixteenth century and their assumptions by with which they came to Japan. The analysis of the works of enlightenment scholars and their characteristics of the concept kegare implies uncritical acceptance of knowledge about kegare from Christian missionaries from sixteenth century. Due to uncritical acceptance, Christian missionaries formed from knowledge about kegare neutral facts and attributed to these facts the non-theological context.
