Data mart of regulatory reporting in the cloud environment

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je zaměřená na problematiku cloud computingu a využití této technologie v oblasti datových skladů a tržišť. Hlavním cílem této práce je tvorba „Proof of concept“, jehož cílem je návrh na vylepšení výkonu datového tržiště denního regulatorního reportingu, který se využívá ve vybrané úvěrové instituci. Většina poskytovatelů nabízí více produktů vhodných pro implementaci datových skladů a tržišť, splnění hlavního cíle je dosaženo prostřednictvím implementace ve dvou vybraných cloudových produktech (Azure Synapse a Azure SQL Database) a následného testování a porovnání na základě navržených kritérií. Implementaci předcházela definice potřebného teoretického rámce, analýza současného stavu společnosti, analýza a návrh řešení, včetně analýzy rizik držení citlivých dat v cloudu. Výstupem práce je zmíněný „Proof of Concept“, ve kterém se prokázala možnost obrovského zrychlení výkonu za pomoci nástroje Azure Synapse, což je důležitým aspektem splnění stanoveného regulatorního SLA.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on the problematics of cloud computing and its usage in the field of data warehouses and data marts. The main goal of this work is to create a "Proof of Concept", which aim is to propose an improvement of the data mart performance in daily regulatory reporting, that is used in selected banking institutions. Most of the vendors offer more than one product suitable for the implementation of data warehouses and data marts. The goal of the diploma thesis is accomplished through the implementation of a banking institution's data mart into two selected products of Microsoft - Microsoft Azure and Microsoft SQL Database, their subsequent testing, and comparison based on defined criteria. The implementation was preceded by the definition of the necessary theoretical framework, followed by the analysis of the current state of the company and analysis and design of solutions, including the identification of the risks of holding sensitive data in the cloud. The outсome of the work is the mentioned "Proof of Concept", in which the possibility of significant acceleration of performance with the help of the Azure Synapse tool was demonstrated, which is an important aspect of meeting the prescribed regulatory SLA.
