The professional public's perception of external audit

Abstract:

KOMÁRKOVÁ, E. Vnímání externího auditu odbornou veřejností. Diplomová práce. Brno: Mendelova univerzita v Brně, 2024 Diplomová práce se zabývá posouzením současného stavu vnímání externího auditu odbornou veřejností. K dosažení cílů práce bylo využito průzkumné šetření, konkrétně dotazník, který obsahoval jednotlivá tvrzení ohledně externího auditu, na které respondenti odpovídali. Na základě jejich odpovědí byla kvantifikována hodnota „Audit expectation gap“. Další otázky měly za cíl zjistit, zda odborná veřejnost považuje externí audit za srozumitelný a přínosný, a které aspekty mohou přispět k lepšímu pochopení smyslu externího auditu. Hodnota „Audit expectation gap“ byla následně vyhodnocena pomocí popisné statistiky a byla také vytvořena regresní analýza. Bylo zjištěno, že faktory, které mají na hodnotu „Audit expectation gap“ vliv jsou pohlaví, dosažené vzdělání a vzdělání v oblasti auditu. Výsledky dotazníkového šetření byly v diskusní části porovnány s výsledky v minulosti povedených výzkumů. Dále bylo vyhodnoceno, jak odborná veřejnost vnímá externí audit. Bylo zjištěno, že odborná veřejnost vnímá externí audit spíše jako srozumitelný a přínosný. Na závěr byly stanoveny návrhy na drobné úpravy auditorské zprávy, které by vedly k lepšímu pochopení této zprávy a celkově i smyslu externího auditu.

KOMÁRKOVÁ, E. The professional public's perception of external audit. Master's thesis. Brno: Mendel University in Brno, 2024 The thesis deals with the assessment of the current state of perception of external audit by the professional public. To achieve the objectives of the thesis, survey research was used, specifically a questionnaire which contained individual statements regarding external audit to which the respondents answered. Based on their responses, the "Audit expectation gap" was quantified. Other questions aimed to find out whether the professional public considers external audit to be understandable and beneficial, and which aspects can contribute to a better understanding of the meaning of external audit. The value of the "Audit expectation gap" was then evaluated using descriptive statistics and a regression analysis was also performed. It was found that the factors that influence the value of "Audit expectation gap" are gender, educational attainment, and audit education. The results of the questionnaire survey were compared in the discussion section with the results of the research conducted in the past. In addition, the perception of the professional public on external audit was evaluated. It was found that the professional public perceived external audit as rather reasonable and beneficial. Finally, suggestions were made for minor changes to the audit report that would lead to a better understanding of the report and the overall purpose of external audit.
