Calculation and comparison of radiation doses of patients from examination in radiodiagnostics

Abstract:

In my bachelor thesis I focus on the description of ionizing radiation, the effects of ionizing radiation on humans and the description of quantities and units used in radiation protection. Within the ionizing radiation, I briefly deal with the division of ionizing radiation, radiation sources and basic properties of radiation. In the field of the use of ionizing radiation, I acquaint with its use in medicine, with concepts such as radiotherapy, nuclear medicine and radiodiagnostics, as well as with specifications in radiodiagnostics. In short, I describe specific fields of radiodiagnostics, which are sciagraphy, sciascopy and computed tomography - CT. In the section devoted to quantities and units in radiation protection, I describe specific doses in more detail. These are three specific doses, the absorbed, equivalent and effective dose. The second part of the work focuses on the possibilities of calculating doses from the examination and comparing doses in different examinations in radiodiagnostics. For this reason, the quantities DAP and DLP and their units are described in more detail in this section. Examination of simple chest images from skiagraphy and CT of the thoracic spine are analyzed. Two programs ImPACT -CT and PCXMC-sciagraphy and conversion via coefficients are used to calculate doses in these examinations. This calculation is followed by the last step, which is to compare doses. All obtained results are interpreted verbally.

Abstract:

V Bakalárskej práci sa zameriavam na popis ionizujúceho žiarenia, účinky ionizujúceho žiarenia na človeka aj na popis veličín a jednotiek využívaných v radiačnej ochrane. V rámci ionizujúceho žiarenia sa v práci v stručnosti venujem deleniu ionizujúceho žiarenia, zdrojom žiarenia a základným vlastnostiam žiarenia. V oblasti využitia ionizujúceho žiarenia oboznamujem s jeho využitím v medicíne, s pojmami ako sú rádioterapia, nukleárna medicína a rádiodiagnostika a taktiež so špecifikáciami v rádiodiagnostike. V skratke popisujem špecifické obory rádiodiagnostiky, ktorými sú skiagrafia, skiaskopia a vypočtová tomografia - CT. V časti venovanej veličinám a jednotkám v radiačnej ochrane bližšie popisujem konkrétne dávky. Ide o tri konkrétne dávky a to absorbovanú, ekvivalentnú a efektívnu dávku. Druha časť prace sa zameriava na možnosti výpočtu dávok z vyšetrenia a zrovnanie dávok v rôznych vyšetreniach v rádiodiagnostike. S tohto dôvodu sú v tejto časti bližšie charakterizované veličiny DAP a DLP a ich jednotky. Analyzované sú vyšetrenie jednoduchý snímok hrudníka zo skiagrafie a CT hrudnej chrbtice. Na výpočet dávok pri týchto vyšetreniach sú využite dva programy ImPACT -CT a PCXMC- skiagrafia a prepočet cez koeficienty. Po tomto výpočte nasleduje posledný úkon, ktorým je porovnávanie dávok. Všetky získané výsledky sú interpretované slovne.
