Cell senescence and cancer

Abstract:

Buněčná senescence představuje na jedné straně proces zodpovědný za stárnutí organismu, na druhou stranu je i jednou z obranných bariér bránících maligní transformaci. Řada recentních studií naznačuje, že indukce senescence u nádorových buněk by se mohla stát jednou z možných cest protinádorové terapie. Nicméně mnohé poznatky z této oblasti jsou stále značně rozporuplné, zejména z důvodu prokázané metabolické aktivity senescentních buněk a jejich podpůrné role v rozvoji některých druhů nádorových onemocnění. Cílem této práce bude shrnutí současných poznatků o molekulárních mechanismech indukce senescence a její roli v rozvoji nádorových onemocnění a protinádorové terapii.

Abstract:

Cell senescence is a process responsible for aging; on the other hand, cell senescence is one of the barriers in malignant transformation. Induction of senescence in tumour cells can be a possible approach involved in anticancer therapy. However, the findings in this area remain inconsistent, especially due to recently elucidated secretory activity of the senescent cells and its role in development of some cancers. The goal of this thesis is to summarize recent findings of molecular mechanisms of senescence induction, its role in cancer development and in anticancer therapy.
