Comparative analysis of sound design of selected films by Alfred Hitchcock, Andrey Tarkovsky and Steven Spielberg

Abstract:

Tématem práce je analýza zvukové složky ve filmech tří uznávaných režisérů: Alfreda Hitchcocka, Andreje Tarkovského a Stevena Spielberga. Teoretická část obsahuje stručný přehled historie filmového zvuku a přináší jejich typologii z pohledu zvukového designu. V druhé části práce budeme analyzovat tři autory a jejich osobitou práci se zvukem na konkrétních filmových dílech. Cílem práce je vyzdvihnout důležitost role zvuku v jejich filmech.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is comparative analysis of soundtracks in three films of well– known film directors: Alfred Hitchcock, Andrey Tarkovskij and Steven Spielberg. Theoretical part of this thesis contains a brief overview of the history of film sound and present typology from the perspective of the field of sound design. Second part of this thesis will analyze three specific films of this directors and their distinctive work with film sound. The main goal of the thesis is to highlight the importance of the role of sound in their films.
