The cycle of digital landscape paintings aimed to the fantasy landscape and architecture

Abstract:

Tato práce je věnována technice matte paintingu a digitálním technologiím. Předmětem této práce je autorsky zpracovaný cyklus pěti krajinomaleb vytvořených v grafickém editoru Photoshop za pomocí techniky matte paintingu a užitím vlastních i cizích fotografií. Výstup této práce je ve formě pěti digitálních fotografií o velikosti 30 x 60 cm. Cyklus je inspirován americkým fantasy dramatickým seriálem Game of Thrones, kde na fiktivním kontinentu žije několik znepřátelených rodů, jejichž sídla mají mnohdy názvy, které konkrétní rody charakterizují. Tato královská sídla byla předlohou pro moji bakalářskou práci, kde jsem na základě konkrétního názvu sídla stylizovala sídlo podle své vlastní fantazie. V teoretické části se věnuji matte paintingu jako takovému, jeho vývoji a využití ve filmu. Dále se zmiňuji o významných umělcích, kteří se matte paintingu věnují a také se zmiňuji o grafických editorech, ke kterým se matte painting váže. Ve druhé polovině své práce se věnuji samotné tvorbě, popisu použitých technik stylizace a úprav, včetně tvůrčí reflexe.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis is devoted to a technique called "matte painting" and to digital technologies. The subject of this thesis is a compilation of 5 landscape paintings created in the graphics editor Photoshop using the technique "matte painting" on photographs taken both by myself and other photographers. The output of this thesis is 5 digital photographies of the dimensions 30 x 60 cm. The cycle is inspired by the American fantasy series called Game of Thrones, where several warring nations live on a fictional continent. Some of the nations are characterised by their names. These royal mansions inspired my bachelor's thesis, based on the particular names of the royal mansions, I stylised the mansions using my own imagination. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to matte painting in detail, to its development and to its usage in movies. I also mention relevant artists who have created using the technique of matte painting, as well as graphics editing tools which are connected with matte painting. The second part of this bachelor's thesis is devoted to the creation on its own and a description of the techniques of stylisation and modification used in the thesis, including creative reflection.
