Prvá kapitola v krátkosti popisuje podmienky vydania románu, kritickú odozvu a tiež sa zmieňuje fakty o otroctve, ktoré nemusia byť bežnému čitateľovi známe a zároveň priamo súvisia s dejom románu. Abstract:
The thesis focuses on depiction of slavery in The Bondwoman’s Narrative by Hannah Crafts. The first chapter sums up the genesis of the novel as well as its reception by the literary community. Moreover, it outlines some facts related to slavery that are relevant to the plot of the novel.
