Landscape and traditional architecture of Haná region as perceived by the new settlers in the village Hlušovice near Olomouc

Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá vztah novousídlených obyvatel hanácké vesnice Hlušovice k místní krajině, drobným sakrálním stavbám a lidové architektuře. Protože tato obec leží nedaleko města Olomouc, byla ve svém vývoji značně ovlivněna městskou kulturou. Zejména od prvního desetiletí 21. století do podoby Hlušovic výrazně zasáhl trend suburbanizace. Cílem této práce bylo skrze dotazníky a rozhovory nahlednout do vnímání novousedlých obyvatel a zjistit, jaký postoj mají ke svému novému bydlišti a jaký význam přikládají zdejšímu prostředí a tradici lidové architektury.

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to investigate the views of the new settlers of the village Hlušovice (near the city of Olomouc) on the local landscape, the village itself, as well as the traces of the traditional architecture of Haná region. The study is divided into chapters which are focused on the landscape, small sacral monuments, evolution of traditional architecture, present state of the countryside and current problems of the phenomenon known as suburbanization. The research was based on the questionnaire and interviews with selected persons who moved to Hlušovice in a few different waves. It is necessary to note that Hlušovice is a village without almost any extant traditional features. Local architecture was substantially changed due to the proximity to the Olomouc city which happened particulary during the era of socialism. From the 1990‘s this village, which once had been “sentenced to extinction“, has been significantly transformed due to the intensive suburbanization. Within these two decades the number of it’s inhabitants has increased three times. These mostly young inhabitants perceive Haná region and its traditional architecture in a positive way, as a rule they are content with the appearance of their village but still they are able to identify a number of things which could be improved.
