Comparison of trends in unemployment in CR and SR from the perspective of demographic characteristics of unemployed persons

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je analyzovat vývoj nezaměstnanosti ČR a SR pomocí demografických charakteristik ve sledovaném období 1994-2013. Mezi základní rozdíly mezi Českou a Slovenskou republikou patří samotná úroveň míry nezaměstnanosti, která je na Slovensku vyšší o pět až deset procentních bodů. To znamená, že nezaměstnanost v SR je mnohem větším problémem než v ČR. Výchozí situace SR byla vlivem malé diverzifikace průmyslu, většího podílu těžkého a zbrojního průmyslu, který byl utlumen, mnohem horší. Od počátku privatizace došlo v ČR k rychlejšímu rozvoji malého a středního podnikání. ČR má navíc lepší geografickou polohu, rovněž velikost zahraničních investic byla vyšší než v SR. Dále lze konstatovat, že míra nezaměstnanosti žen je v obou státech většinou vyšší než míra nezaměstnanosti mužů. V ČR je tento rozdíl trvale roven dvěma až třem procentním bodům, v SR tento rozdíl více kolísá.

Abstract:

The objective of the thesis is to analyse the unemployment development in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic by using of demographical characteristic in the observed period 1994 -- 2013. The rate of unemployment itself is one of the fundamental differences between the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. This rate is higher in the Slovak Republic from five to ten percentage points. That means the unemployment in the Slovak Republic is much bigger problem than in the Czech Republic. The initial situation in the Slovak Republic was much worse due to limited diversification of Slovak industry and larger share of heavy and defence industry, which was reduced. Moreover faster development of small and medium-sized enterprises occurred in the Czech Republic from the beginning of the privatisation. The Czech Republic has better geographicallocation, moreover the size of foreign investments was higher than in the Slovak Republic. Furthermore, it can be stated the unemployment rate for women in both countries is usually higher than the one for men.The difference mentioned above is constantly equal from two to three percentage points in the Czech Republic, while this difference in Slovakia is more volatile.
