Cultural differences in education and its influence on the process of social integration

Abstract:

V předkládané diplomové práci se věnujeme problematice rodinné výchovy v kontextu kulturních odlišností a jejich vlivu na sociální integraci. Cílem výzkum je analyzovat výchovný proces a identifikovat jeho determinanty v kontextu kulturních odlišností s následným vlivem na sociální integraci. Na základě výsledků této analýzy směřujeme k návrhu efektivních doporučení, jež mohou sloužit například školám a školským zařízením ve prospěch efektivnější práce s žáky jiných národností. Nové poznatky výzkumu mohou sloužit také Integračním poradnám či Cizinecké policii České republiky k lepšímu porozumění vztahu mezi jednáním, které je determinováno kulturními odlišnostmi a průběhem sociální integrace. Vzhledem ke skutečnosti, že žijeme v diverzitní společnosti, která se promítá do heterogenního prostředí ve školách, školních zařízeních i jiných institucích, je nasnadě abychom se v takovéto společnosti uměli nadále orientovat. Práce proto reaguje na aktuální potřebu efektivnější kooperace mezi subjekty a objekty integrační politiky, resp. všemi aktéry procesu sociální integrace. Nedostatečná informační provázanost mezi aktéry procesu sociální integrace vyvolává u majoritní společnosti dojem o neochotě přizpůsobit se ze strany nově příchozích imigrantů a v neposlední řadě také obavy z kulturních střetů. Na základě výsledků longitudinálních výzkumů lze konstatovat, že realita s níž jsou imigranti konfrontování je v porovnání s tím, jak ji vnímá většinová společnost, zcela odlišná. Imigranti se v nové společnosti musí vyrovnat mnohdy se zcela odlišnou kulturní realitou, prochází změnami kulturní identity a nabytí takových kompetencí, které povedou k efektivní sociální integraci, vyžaduje mnoho času. I druhá generace imigrantů se může potýkat s problémy v procesu sociální integrace. V rámci tohoto výzkumu předpokládáme, že si rodiny imigrantů žijící v České republice uchovávají alespoň část svých kulturních vzorců, které následně prostřednictvím výchovy předávají svým dětem. Je tedy nasnadě identifikovat tyto determinanty a odhalit jejich vliv na sociální integraci. Sociální integrace je multidimenzionální a oboustranný proces. V souvislosti s tím, je velmi důležité spolupůsobení obou stran, majoritní společnosti i imigrantů. Mnohdy viditelná distance většinové společnosti pozitivně nepřispívá vzájemným vztahům, naopak může vyvolat pocity nejistoty a úzkosti ze strany přistěhovalců, které pak povedou k separaci. Takováto prostorová segregace je z hlediska efektivity začlenění do společnosti nežádoucí. Zde je nutné podotknout, že existuje několik typů prostorové segregace. Někteří autoři uvádí, že prostorová segregace, která vznikla na základě nedobrovolného rozhodnutí a na základě určité diskriminace ze strany většinové společnosti, se zcela liší od etnické enklávy, vzniklé na základě dobrovolného rozhodnutí. Rozdíl mezi zmíněnými typy prostorových segregací spočívá také v efektivitě procesu sociální integrace. Chceme-li segregaci předejít, musíme se procesem integrace zabývat systematicky a usilovat o co největší porozumění a informační propojenost obou stran. Celý výzkumný design této práce je navržen tak, aby korespondoval se stanoveným cílem a přispěl tak detailním vhledem do projednávané problematiky. Porozumění procesu integrace přispějí i výsledky výzkumu, které reflektují realitu z pohledu druhé generace imigrantů.

Abstract:

In this present thesis we focus on the issue of family education in the context of cultural differences and their impact on social integration. The aim of the research is to analyze the educational process and identify its determinants in the context of cultural differences with the consequent impact on social integration. Based on the results of this analysis we are heading towards the design of effective recommendations that can be used, for example by schools and educational facilities for the benefit of effective work with students of other nationalities. New research findings may also be useful for Integration centers and Foreign Police of the Czech Republic for a better understanding of the relationship between immigrant's acting which is determined by cultural differences and the process of social integration. Due to the fact that we live in a diverse society, which is reflected in heterogeneous environments at schools, educational establishments and other institutions, it is obvious for ourselves to be able to orientate in such society. Work in this way responds to the current need for more effective cooperation between the subjects and objects of integration policies, respectively all actors in the process of social integration. Deficient informational interconnection between actors in the process of social integration in the mainstream society gives the impression of unwillingness to adapt by newly arrived immigrants and ultimately fears of cultural clashes. Based on the results of longitudinal studies we can say that reality, with which immigrants are confronted, in comparison with how it is perceived by mainstream society, completely differs. Immigrants in the new society often have to deal with a completely different cultural realities, cultural identity changes and to acquire social skills that will lead to effective social integration requires much more time. Even second-generation immigrants may be faced with difficulties in social integration. In this research, we assume that immigrant families living in the Czech Republic retain for at least part of their cultural patterns, which are transmitted by upbringing process to their children. It is therefore obvious to identify these determinants and reveal their impact on social integration. Social integration is multi-dimensional and bilateral process. In connection with this, interaction between the two sides, the majority society and immigrants is very important. Often visible distance of the majority society does not contribute positively to mutual relations, in turn, it may cause feelings of uncertainty and anxiety among immigrants, which then lead to separation. Such territorial segregation is undesirable in terms of the effectiveness of integration into society. Some authors state that unless it is a territorial segregation, which was based on involuntary decisions based on a discrimination by the majority society, is completely different from ethnic enclaves incurred on a voluntary decision. The difference between these types of territorial segregation also influence the effectiveness of the process of social integration. If we want to prevent segregation, we have to systematically deal with the integration process to maximize understanding and information interconnectedness of both participants. The entire research strategy of this study is designed to correspond to the stated goal and thus contribute to a detailed insight into this issue. Understanding the process of integration will also contribute to the research results, which reflect the reality in terms of second-generation immigrants.
