The image of the police and gendarmerie in the interwar period in literature and journalism

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je vytvořit obraz policie a četnictva v literatuře a žurnalistice na území Čech, Moravy a Slezska v období mezi oběma světovými válkami. Jako předmět bádání bylo vybráno četnictvo i policie, a to z důvodu, že na území autonomních měst působila policie, zatímco na venkově a menších městech četnictvo (samozřejmě docházelo i k překrývání pole působnosti). Výběrem obou těchto bezpečnostních sborů spadajících pod ministerstvo vnitra je zaručeno rovnoměrné postihnutí celého zvoleného území. K dosažení cíle této práce bude použita komparace rivalizujících narativů o obrazu policie a četnictva v literatuře a žurnalistice, a to na základě stanovených kritérií, podle kterých budou texty podrobeny obsahové analýze (o stanovených kritériích pojednává samostatný odstavec). Pomocí této analýzy budou identifikovány shody a rozdíly v narativu. Jako další prostředek k rekonstrukci obrazu policie a četnictva byla zvolena sémantická analýza. Pozornost bude tedy věnována tomu, které pojmy, obraty, sémantické figury jsou v líčení obrazu policie a četnictva shodné a které rozdílné. Policie a četnictvo sice mělo oficiální formu prezentace a s tím spojenou snahu určitým způsobem působit na obyvatelstvo. Tato oficiální prezentace však nemusela být shodná se stanoviskem, které obyvatelé k policii a četnictvu zaujímali.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to create an image of the police and gendarmerie in literature and journalism in the territory of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia in the period between the two world wars. Both the gendarmerie and the police were chosen as the subject of research, because the police operated in the territory of the autonomous cities, while the gendarmerie operated in the countryside and smaller towns (of course, there was an overlap in the field of activity). By selecting both of these security forces under the Ministry of the Interior, equal coverage of the entire selected territory is guaranteed. To achieve the goal of this work, a comparison of rival narratives about the image of the police and the gendarmerie in literature and journalism will be used, based on established criteria, according to which the texts will be subjected to content analysis (a separate paragraph discusses the established criteria). Using this analysis, similarities and differences in the narrative will be identified. Semantic analysis was chosen as another means of reconstructing the image of the police and gendarmerie. Attention will therefore be paid to which terms, turns of phrase, semantic figures are the same and which are different in describing the image of the police and the gendarmerie. The police and gendarmerie did have an official form of presentation and an associated effort to influence the population in a certain way. However, this official presentation may not have coincided with the position that residents took towards the police and gendarmerie.
