Saint Columba and His Hiberno-Scottish Mission

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis concentrates on the Irish missionary who is credited to spreading Christianity in 6th century in nowadays Scotland Saint Columba and on his Hiberno-Scottish Mission. The aim of this paper is to describe Saint Columba's life and his actions which were part of Hiberno-Scottish Mission and figure out their importance to history of Ireland and Scotland. The thesis further investigates the Isle of Iona during the life of Saint Columba and after. It also explores two kingdoms Dalriada and Pictland which took significant part in Saint Columba's Mission. In addition, the thesis describes life of missionaries before and after Columba.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na irského misionáře, kterému jsou připsány zásluhy za rozšiřování křesťanství v 6 století na území dnešního Skotska, Svatého Kolumbu a na jeho iroskotskou misii. Cíle této práce je popsat život Svatého Kolumby a jeho činy, které byly součástí iroskotské misie a zjistit jak důležitý byl on i jeho misie v historii Irska a Skotska. Tato práce se dále zabývá ostrovem Iona během života Svatého Kolumby a po něm. Dále zkoumá dvě království, které byly důležitou částí misie Svatého Kolumby. Práce rovněž popisuje život misionářů před a po Kolumbovi.
