The Relationship Between Media Multitasking and Attention

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je zaměřena na fenomén mediální multitasking. Zabývá se souvislostí mezi mediálním multitaskingem a pozorností. Cílem práce je zjistit, jaký má mediální multitasking dopad na výkonnost při učení a chybovost u studentů (budou sledovány možné faktory (pozitivní i negativní), se kterými se jedinec při činnostech setká). Práce se také pokusí identifikovat souvislost mezi mediálním multitaskingem a pozorností. Jako sekundární cíl bude práce zjišťovat, zda existuje proklamovaný rozdíl ve zvládání multitaskingu mezi pohlavími. Teoretická část se pokouší objasnit pojem multitasking a následně pojem mediální multitasking. Dále se tato část diplomové práce zabývá výzkumy v oblasti mediálního multitaskingu a vlivy mediálního multitaskingu. Práce se rovněž zabývá pamětí a pozorností v období dospívání. Snaží se o spojení pozornosti s digitálním světem. Všímá si genderové problematiky a hledá, zda rozdílnost pohlaví může znamenat také rozdílnost ve výkonnosti a chybovosti při multitaskingu. Praktická část se zabývá experimentem formou kvantitativního výzkumu, kde budou využity tři testy (výkonový test paměti - slova, výkonový test paměti - pohádka a standardizovaný test pozornosti d2). U studentů ve věku 15 až 16 let mapuje dopad mediálního multitaskingu na výkonnost a chybovost při učení (budou sledovány možné faktory (pozitivní i negativní), se kterými se jedinec při činnostech setká). Dále se zabývá souvislostí mezi mediálním multitaskingem a pozorností. Rovněž zjišťuje, zda existuje rozdíl ve zvládání multitaskingu mezi muži a ženami.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the media multitasking phenomenon. It deals with the relationship between media multitasking and attention. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the impact of multitasking on learning performance and error rate of students (possible factors, both positive and negative, that student will face during its activities will be observed). Also, the thesis will try to identify the relationship between media multitasking and attention. As a secondary goal, the thesis will try to determine whether there is a proclaimed difference in managing multitasking between the sexes. The theoretical part attempts to explain the concept of multitasking and subsequently the media multitasking. This part of the thesis further explores the research in the field of media multitasking and the effects of media multitasking. The thesis also deals with memory and attention in adolescence. It aims to explore the aspects of attention in the digital world. It looks at gender issues and seeks to find out whether gender differences can also mean differences in performance and error rates in multitasking. The practical part deals with the experiment in the form of quantitative research, where three tests (memory performance test - words, memory performance test - fairy tale, and standardized d2 attention test) will be used. On students aged 15 to 16 it maps the impact of media multitasking on performance and error rates in learning (possible factors, both positive and negative, that student will face during its activities will be observed). It further deals with the relationship between media multitasking and attention. It also examines whether there is a difference in managing multitasking between men and women.
