Nisa mechanical calculator, its history, priciples, and applications

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje (elektro)mechanickým kalkulátorům značky Nisa, které se ve 20. století vyráběly na Liberecku. Práce obsahuje dvě části. V první se podrobněji věnujeme numerickým výpočtům, které lze na kalkulátorech realizovat. Kromě klasického sčítání, odečítání, násobení a dělení se zbytkem, které jsou triviální, se věnujeme hlavně numerickému výpočtu odmocniny z~přirozeného, resp. kladného racionálního čísla. Podrobně vyložíme, jak jednotlivé numerické metody fungují, jak spolu souvisejí a vybereme metodu, která je pro výpočet na jednoduchém kalkulátoru nejvhodnější. Ve druhé části práce se stručně věnujeme historii výroby. Popíšeme tři odlišné varianty konstrukcí výpočetního mechanizmu, které se nám podařilo dohledat. Dále se pak v~rámci jednotlivých konstrukčních variant soustředíme na jednotlivé modely, modelové řady, barevné varianty atd., které se zde v průběhu let vyráběly.

Abstract:

This work is focused to (electro)mechanical calculators Nisa that were produced throughout the 20th century in Liberec region. The work consists of two parts. To first part focused in detail to numerical calculator, that are applicable on such calulcators. With the exception of trivial calulations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with remainders, we focus mainly on the numerical methods for the calculators the square-root of a natural, or positive rational number. We explain in detail how these methods work, how they relate to each other, and finally we propose the one, which fits the best for such simple calulator. In the other part, we briefly go through the history of the production. We describe three construction variants of the computaional mechanism, that we were able to identify. Further, we show which models, model lines, color variants, etc. were produced within the individual construction variant throughout the years.
