Some Aspects of Assessing Pronunciation in EFL Classes

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Aspekty hodnocení výslovnosti ve výuce anglického jazyka se zabývá testováním a hodnocením výslovnosti. Jsou zde představeny dva přístupy k hodnocení výslovnosti, analytický a celostní, oba subjektivní - založeny na dojmu hodnotitele. Práce prezentuje různé druhy testů a kritéria pro postup při jejich výběru, stejně jako kritéria pro hodnocení. Dále se zabývá podmínkami, které je nutno vzít v úvahu ve výuce, testování a hodnocení výslovnosti: faktory působící ve výuce výslovnosti, role žáka a role učitele. Cílem výzkumné části bylo zjistit, jaké informace je možno získat testováním, porovnání dvou přístupů k hodnocení – analytického a celostního – a shoda tří hodnotitelů zahrnutých do procesu testování. Na základě těchto informací byly vyhodnoceny výhody a nevýhody obou přístupů.

Abstract:

The thesis Some Aspects of Assessing Pronunciation in EFL Classes deals with pronunciation testing and assessment. It presents two approaches to pronunciation assessment – atomistic and holistic, both subjective – impression-based. The wotk presents various testing activities and criteria for their choice as well as criteria for assessing. Next, it deals with conditions necessary to be taken into account in teaching, testing and assessing: factors affecting pronunciation learning, the role of the learner and the role of the teacher. The objectives of the research part was to find out about the data which can be obtained by testing, comparison of the two approaches – analytic and holistic – and the agreement of the assessors involved. On the basis of this advantages and disadvantages of the two approaches have been concluded.
