The Role and the Importance of Rating in the Financial Market

Abstract:

The final thesis deals with the rating, and its role in market orientated economies. The first chapter describes the role and functions of financial markets and deals with their classification. This chapter also describes the risks, which are present by trading on financial markets. It defines the term rating, explains the history and circumstances of its origins,and its role in the financial sector. There is also presentedin the first chapter the rating classification, characteristics and role of rating agencies and the methodology of rating elaboration, where it explains the role of structural prediction models. The second chapter monitors the development of Slovak economy performance by analysing the chosen macroeconomic indicators,and illustrates the influence of economic development on states ́ ratings, and the projection of this trend on the government debt prices, measured by consols ́ long - term interest rates. The third chapter defines the term financial crisis, describes the reasons of actual financial crisis outbreakand its development,and its advancement to the economic crisis, and investigates which role played the rating agencies in this process. Moreover it describes the rating agencies failures and adopted EU regulatory provisions aimed to elimination of rating processes failures.

Abstract:

Predmetom spracovanej diplomovej práce je rating a jeho úloha a význam v podmienkach trhovo orientovaných ekonomík. Prvá kapitola popisuje funkciu a význam finančných trhov a prináša ich klasifikáciu. Táto kapitola vymedzuje riziká, ktoré sú spojené s obchodovaním finančných trhoch. Prvá kapitola ďalej definuje pojem rating, históriu a okolnosti jeho vzniku a jeho úlohu vo finančnom sektore, prináša klasifikáciu ratingu, charakteristiku a pôsobenie ratingových agentúr a metodológiu zostavovania ratingových hodnotení, v rámci ktorej bližšie predstavuje štrukturálne predikčné modely. Druhá kapitola sleduje vývoj výkonnosti ekonomiky Slovenskej republiky na pozadí vybraných makroekonomických ukazovateľov a demonštruje vplyv ekonomického vývoja na ratingové hodnotenie štátov a premietnutie tohto hodnotenia do ceny verejného dlhu, ktorá je vyjadrená výškou rizikovej prirážky vstupujúcej do úrokových sadzieb dlhodobých štátnych dlhopisov. Tretia kapitola definuje pojem finančná kríza, popisuje dôvody vzniku a priebeh súčasnej finančnej krízy, ktorá prerástla do krízy hospodárskej a skúma, akú úlohu zohrali ratingové agentúry pri vzniku krízy. Následne definuje problémové miesta v pôsobnosti ratingových agentúr a predstavuje prijaté regulačné opatrenia Európskej únie k eliminácii zlyhávania ratingových procesov.
