The toponymy of Czech borderlands after the year 1945 (as a case study of chosen municipalites of the region of Jeseníky)

Abstract:

Dizertační práce s názvem Toponymie českého pohraničí po roce 1945 (na příkladu vybraných obcí Jesenicka) popisuje a analyzuje toponymii bývalého okresu Jeseník po roce 1945. Oikonyma jsou sledována v rámci celého okresu, anoikonyma a urbanonyma pouze ve vybraných obcích. Tato oblast byla od středověku osidlována německojazyčným etnikem, a velká část jmen proto byla německého původu. Po druhé světové válce ovšem došlo v duchu celkové degermanizace k počešťování zeměpisných názvů; rozbor procesu přejmenování je jedním z cílů dizertační práce. Kromě toho je synchronní vrstva toponymie sledována z hlediska variantnosti a podrobena vztahověmodelové analýze. Práce se zaměřuje jak na standardizovanou vrstvu jmen, tak na tu nestandardizovanou ("živou"), která byla získána terénním výzkumem vedeným formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů.

Abstract:

My doctoral thesis Toponymy of the Czech borderlands after 1945 (as a case study of chosen municipalities of the Jeseník district) describes and analyses the toponymy of the former district of the Jeseník after the year 1945. Place names are observed within the whole district, while field names and street names only in chosen municipalities. This area was settled by German speaking ethnic group since the Middle Ages, thus a large part of the names was of the German origin. However, after the Second World War in the spirit of general degermanization, geographical names were bohemized - a huge part of the thesis if focused particularly on the process of the renaming. Apart from this, the synchronous layer of the toponymy is researched from the variation point of view and a model analysis was also carried out. The work concentrates both on standardized and non-standardized ("popular") names, which were collected on the basis of the field research in a form of half-structured interviews.
