Study of thermodynamic behaviour and thermal stability of advanced thermolectric materials

Abstract:

Tato disertační práce je zaměřena na studium teplotní a fázové stability termoelektrických materiálů na bázi skutteruditů a half-Heuslerových slitin s vysokým podílem antimonu a jejich závislosti na různém mechanickém zpracování při jejich přípravě, případně jejich rozdílném složení. Pro studium byly využity techniky diferenční termické analýzy a Knudsenovy efúze, s možností hmotnostně spektrometrické detekce par antimonu. Výsledky byly doplněny měřením mikrostruktury a difúzních profilů studovaných materiálů, vysokoteplotní rentgenovou difrakční analýzou a metodou mikro CT, provedených na externích pracovištích. Zjištěné výsledky byly konfrontovány s dostupnými informacemi o fázových diagramech dílčích podsoustav, tvořících studované materiály a byl zpřesněn fázový diagram soustavy Co-Sb, klíčový pro termoelektrické materiály na bázi skutteruditů. Bylo provedeno komplexní vyhodnocení dlouhodobé tepelné stability studovaných materiálů a posouzení vhodnosti materiálů pro aplikaci v technické praxi. Výsledky ukazují, že half-Heuslerovy slitiny mají větší tepelnou a fázovou stabilitu, než materiály na bázi skutteruditů.

Abstract:

This dissertation paper deals with the study of temperature and phase stability of thermodynamic materials based on skutterudite, and half-Heusler alloys with high amount of antimony and their dependency on various mechanical processing during the production, or their various structure. Differential thermal analysis and Knudsen effusion have been used in this study with the possibility of mass spectrometry detection of antimony vapors. The results have been supplemented by measurements of microstructures and diffusion profiles of studied materials, high-temperature X-ray diffraction analysis and micro-CT methods, provided by external institutions. The achieved results have been compared with available information about phase diagrams of partial substructures of studied materials and phase diagram of Co-Sb, crucial for thermoelectric materials based on skutterudite, has been specified. A complex evaluation of a long-lasting temperature stability of studied materials has been provided and the feasibility of materials for usage in technical practice. The results show that half-Heusler alloys have higher temperature and phase stability than materials based on skutterudite.
