Autistic Features in Patients Suffering from Chronic Depression

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá přítomností autistických rysů u pacientů trpící chronickou depresí. Pomocí baterie sebeposuzovacích dotazníků zahrnující Autism Quotient Questionnaire, Empathy Quotient Questionnaire a Bermond-Vorst Alexithymia Questionnaire byla explorována přítomnost a míra deficitů, které se typicky vyskytují u pacientů trpící poruchou autistického spektra. Mezi tyto sledované deficity patří například schopnost empatie, sociální dovednosti, komunikace nebo alexitymie. Do studie bylo zahrnuto 31 pacientů trpící chronickou depresí, 27 probandů s poruchou autistického spektra a 31 probandů ze zdravé populace sloužící jako kontrolní skupina. Cílem bylo porovnat dosažené skóry jednotlivých dotazníků mezi skupinami a explorace vztahu mezi mírou autistických rysů a hloubkou deprese u chronicky depresivních pacientů. Statictická analýza našla signifikantní rozdíl mezi depresivními pacienty a zdravými jedinci v dotaznících AQ a EQ, depresivní pacienti vykazovali hodnoty, které se přibližují pacientům s poruchou autistického spektra. Nebyly nalezeny signifikantní rozdíly mezi zdravými jedinci a depresivními pacienty v míře přítomnosti alexitimie. Dále nebyly nalezen žádný významný vztah mezi mírou autistických rysů a hloubkou deprese. Výsledky tohoto výzkumu mohou sloužit jako vodítko pro další výzkum v této oblasti, které mohou mít aplikovatelný dopad především na psychoterapeutickou péči chronicky depresivních pacientů.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the presence of autistic features in chronic depressive patients. Our test methods include self-report measures like Autism Quotient Questionnaire, Empathy Quotient Questionnaire and Bermond-Vorst Alexithymia Questionnaire. With these instruments we explored the presence and degree of autistic traits such as empathy, communication, social skills or alexithymia. In our study were involved 31 patients suffering from chronic depression, 27 patients suffering from autism spectrum disorder and 31 healthy controls. The goal of this investigation was to compare score of each questionnaire between samples and explore the possible relation between degree of autistic traits and depression severity in chronic depressive sample. Statistical analyses found significant difference between chronic depressive patients and healthy samples on the AQ and EQ, chronic depressive patients show scores that approximate to the autistic sample. There wasn´t found any significant difference between chronic depressive sample and healthy controls on the BVAQ. Further there wasn´t found any significant relation between degree of autistic traits and depression severity in depressive patients. Results of this investigation can be used for further investigation in this field and can be applied mainly in psychotherapeutical care of chronic depressive patients.
