Subjective Measure and Content of Hope of People Suffering from Alzheimer's Dementia

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je zaměřena na problematiku demence a Alzheimerovy nemoci. Ústředním tématem je, jak lidé s demencí Alzheimerova typu subjektivně vnímají naději a jaké jsou obsahy jejich naděje. Zaměřujeme se také na vliv sebeúcty a vybraných demografických proměnných na subjektivní vnímání naděje. Cílem práce je porovnání výsledků osob s Alzheimerovou nemoci s osobami bez Alzheimerovy nemoci. Výzkumný soubor obsahuje celkem 62 osob (68% žen, 32% mužů) rozdělených do 2 skupin. První skupina obsahuje 31 respondentů ve střední fázi Alzheimerovy nemoci. Druhá, kontrolní skupina obsahuje 31 respondentů bez Alzheimerovy nemoci. Data jsme získali prostřednictvím strukturovaného rozhovoru s využitím inventářů Hope Scale (Snyder, 1995) a SLCS-R (Tafarodi & Swann, 1995) a otázkami na obsah naděje respondentů. Pomocí t-testu pro nezávislé výběry jsme zjišťovali rozdíly mezi skupinami ve vnímání naděje a sebeúcty a pomocí faktoriální analýzy rozptylu jsme se zaměřili na vliv demografických proměnných a Alzheimerovy nemoci na subjektivní vnímání naděje. Výsledky našeho výzkumu naznačují, že není rozdíl v subjektivním vnímání naděje mezi osobami s Alzheimerovou nemocí a bez Alzheimerovy nemoci. Signifikantní rozdíl mezi skupinami respondentů jsme nalezli v míře sebeúcty. Dále jsme zjistili pomocí korelace statisticky významný vztah sebeúcty s vnímáním naděje. Obsah naděje udávaly osoby s Alzheimerovou nemocí častěji v kontextu rodiny a rodinných příslušníků oproti osobám bez Alzheimerovy nemoci. Tato práce se zaměřila na tématiku naděje a Alzheimerovy nemoci, která není prozatím příliš probádaná.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with dementia and Alzheimer‘s disease issue. The central theme is how people suffering from Alzheimer’s type dementia subjectively experience the level of hope and what are the contents of their hope. We also focused on the impact of the self-esteem and selected demographic variables on the subjective experience of hope. The aim is to compare the results of people with Alzheimer’s disease with people without Alzheimer’s disease. The research sample contains a total of 62 persons (68% women and 32% men) divided into two groups. The first group contains 31 respondents in the middle stage of Alzheimer’s disease. A second control group contains 31 respondents without Alzheimer’s disease. The data were obtained through a structured interview using inventories Hope Scale (Snyder, 1995) and SLCS-R (Tafarodi & Swann, 1995) and questions of a contents of the respondents hope. By using independent sample t-test, we ascertained differences between groups in the experience of hope and self-esteem through a factorial analysis of variance, we focused on the impact of demographic variables and Alzheimer’s disease on the subjective perception of hope. The results of our research indicate that there is no difference in the subjective level of hope between persons with and without Alzheimer’s disease. Significant differences between groups of respondents, we found the level of the self-esteem. Futhermore, using the correlation we found statistically significant relation with the self-esteem and the level of hope. The content of hope reported persons with Alzheimer’s disease more frequently in the context of the family and family members compared to persons without Alzheimer’s disease. This thesis deals with the theme of hope and Alzheimer’s disease, which is not explored yet.
