Relations between learning styles, personality traits and academic success of students teacher training programmes

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá styly učení studentů učitelství. Cílem výzkumu bylo odhadnout pořadí stylů učení podle jejich preferovanosti, zjistit vztah mezi styly učení a pohlavím, akademickou úspěšností, studijním předmětem a osobnostními rysy. Rovněž jsme se zabývali silnými a slabými stránkami stylů učení respondentů a spokojeností respondentů se svým stylem učení a prospěchem. Styly učení byly měřeny Vermuntovým Inventářem stylů učení. Osobnostní rysy byly měřeny Eysenckovým osobnostním dotazníkem. Ostatní otázky byly vytvořeny námi. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 163 respondentů (133 žen a 30 mužů). Všichni byli studenti Masarykovy univerzity oboru učitelství. Zjistili jsme, že nejčastěji užívaným stylem učení byl styl učení orientovaný na aplikaci, poté na význam, dále styl učení orientovaný na reprodukci a nejméně preferovaný styl učení byl neřízený styl učení. Našli jsme vztahy mezi styly učení a pohlavím, akademickou úspěšností a škálami Eysenckova osobnostního dotazníku. Nejčastěji uváděnou silnou stránkou stylů učení respondentů byla rychlost/efektivnost při učení, slabou stránkou pak práce ve spěchu/na poslední chvíli. Zjistili jsme, že většina respondentů je spokojena se svým stylem učení i se svým prospěchem. V diskusi jsou pak probrány možnosti a meze tohoto výzkumu.

Abstract:

This dissertation deals with learning styles of students of teaching programme. The aim of this research was to estimate the order of learning styles according to that, how they are preferred by the respondents. Then we wanted to find out the relations between learning styles and gender, academic outcome, studied subject and personality traits. We also dealed with advantages and disadvantages of learning styles of respondents and satisfactioon respondents with their learning style and academic outcome. The learning styles were estimated by Vermunt Inventory of learning styles. Personality traits were estimated by Eysenck personality questionnaire. The other questions were created by us. The sample consisted of 163 respondents (133 women and 30 men). They all were students of Masaryk university of teaching programme. We found out that the most used learning style was applicaton directed learning style, then meaning directed learning style, then reproduction directed learning style and undrected learning style was the less used learning style. We found relations between learning styles and gender, academic outcome and scales of Eysenck personality questionnaire. The quickness/efficiency by learning was the most stated advantage of learning style of respondents. Work in a hurry/at the last moment was the most stated disadvantage. We also found out that the respondents are satesfived with their learning style and academic outcome. The possibilities of use and limits of this research are said in the discussion.
