Zkoumání vazeb mezi degradací půdy a chudobou v Ghaně - případová studie v západní oblasti Ghany

Abstract:

Životní prostředí je jedním z nejdůležitějších zdrojů, jež výrazně podporuje život lidí, rostlin a zvířat. Nepostradatelná úloha životního prostředí při podpoře lidské rasy vyžaduje přijetí extrémně udržitelných opatření na jeho ochranu. Jak se však lidská populace zvyšuje, napomáhá tím k postupné degradaci životního prostředí. Cílem této studie je prozkoumat souvislosti mezi degradací půdy a chudobou v západní oblasti Ghany. V této práci byla použita metoda kvantitativního výzkumu. Pro účely výzkumu byly v této studii použity popisné a vysvětlující výzkumné návrhy. Primární údaje byly shromažďovány pomocí dotazníku, který byl zodpovězen 399 respondenty. V této studii bylo zjištěno, že obyvatelé studované oblasti jsou si vědomi degradace půdy a dopadu, který má na klima, přičemž většina naznačuje, že v důsledku změny klimatu došlo také ke snížení dešťových srážek. Studie tak dospěla k závěru, že degradace půdy má silnou vazbu na chudobu ve studované oblasti, přičemž pouze 3 procenta respondentů naznačují, že během posledních 3 let nedošlo k žádným významným změnám v oblasti půdy, a ani ke snížení příjmů s tím souvisejících. Ze studie bylo zjištěno, že většina obyvatel je závislá na okolní půdě za účely zemědělství. Vzhledem k tomu, že většina těchto zemědělců ztrácí akry zemědělské půdy z důvodu nelegální těžby v okolí, zdroj jejich příjmů je drasticky omezen, a zbývající pozemky, jež nebyly zabrány pro těžbu, nejsou schopné dostát očekávanému množství produkci pěstovaných plodin. Studie proto navrhuje, aby vedoucí představitelé, a členové komunity, zavedli vhodná opatření, která by pomohla snížit úroveň degradace půdy v zasažených oblastech. Tím by se mohlo zabránit negativním, výše popsaným dopadům. Mechanismy, které by pomohly ke zlepšení dané situace jsou zalesňování, efektivní využívání fosilních paliv, či zodpovědné nakládání s odpady. Studie proto opětovně doporučuje, aby vláda, ve spolupráci s nezbytnými ministerstvy, jako jsou ministerstvo půdy a nerostných zdrojů, ministerstvo zemědělství, agentura na ochranu životního prostředí, a další, přijala nezbytné strategie a holistické postupy, které by pomohly zajistit, aby místní komunita kladla důraz na ochranu půdy a pomohla tím zachovat nejen půdní kvalitu, ale i další přírodní zdroje.

Abstract:

The human environment is one vital resource that extensively support human, plants and animal life. Its indispensable role in supporting the human race demands the adoption of extreme sustainable measures to protect it. However, as human population increases, the rate of environmental degradation is progressively increasing. The overall objective of this study is to examine the linkages between land degradation and poverty in the western region of Ghana. Quantitative research method is used. For the research purpose both descriptive and illustrative research designs is used in this study and primary data is gathered using questionnaire which was administered to a minimum sample size of 399 respondents. The study identified that the residents of the study area are aware of land degradation and the impact it has on the climate with majority indicating that there has been reduction in rainfall due to climate change. The study concludes that land degradation has a robust linkage with poverty in the study area with only 3 percent of the respondents indicating that they have no significant changes or reduction in income within the last 3 years. From the study, it was identified that most of the residents depend directly on the land for livelihood; i.e. for farming. With most of these farmers losing acres of farmlands to illegal mining, their source of income is drastically cut short and remaining lands are not able to produce in expected quantities. The study thereby suggests that community leaders and members should put appropriate measures in place to help reduce the level of land degradation in the various communities to avoid such impacts. Some mechanisms could be the practicing of afforestation, efficient use of fossil fuel, treating wastes and others. Again, the study recommends that the government in collaboration with the necessary ministries like the ministry of lands and mineral resources, the agricultural ministry, the environmental protection agency and others should adopt strategies and holistic practices that would help ensure that the local community practices proper land protection practices to help maintain the quality of the land and other natural resources.
