"Old" mothers? What's up?

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „„Staré“ matky? A co má být?“ pojednává o strategii volby rodičovství a úskalích spojených s mateřstvím po 35. roce věku ženy. Cílem práce je prostřednictvím rozhovorů zjistit, jak probíhal proces volby pozdního rodičovství, jak ženy po třicítce vnímají své mateřství a zda způsob života „staré“ matky v době „kultu mládí“, není zasažen sociální diskriminací a izolací. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a výzkumnou. Teoretická část práce se zabývá transformací společnosti a strategií rodičovství v letech minulých, dále mapuje základní faktory vedoucí k pozdnímu mateřství a snaží se o porovnání věkové výhodnosti či nevýhodnosti v kontextu s mateřstvím. Praktická část se zakládá na kvalitativním výzkumu. Výzkumné šetření je prováděno formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s pěti respondentkami spadajícími do věkové kategorie „starších“ matek. Linie tématu se odvíjí od vztahů v primární rodině, životního stylu a hodnot, motivů a vnímání mateřství dotazovaných. Data byla analyzována pomocí otevřeného kódování.

Abstract:

Thesis "'Old' mothers? So what?" discusses the parenting strategy choices and pitfalls associated with motherhood after age 35. The goal is to determine through interviews the choosing process of late parenthood, find out how women after 30 perceive their motherhood and whether is not the way of life of "old" mother in time of the "cult of youth" affected by social discrimination and isolation. The thesis is divided into theoretical part and practical part. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the transformation of society and parenting strategies in past, maps the underlying factors leading to late motherhood and tries to compare age benefits and drawbacks in the context of motherhood. The practical part is based on qualitative research. The survey is conducted through semi-structured interviews with five female respondents falling in the age category of "older" mothers. The line is based on the theme of relationships in the nuclear family, lifestyle and values, motives and perceptions of motherhood of respondents. Data were analyzed using open coding.
