A library for generating dynamic web pages based on Swift NIO

Abstract:

Requirements of modern web pages are, among others, fast initial load of the website, performance optimization of the website, and good search engine optimization. Nowadays, you can use many techniques to achieve these goals, one of them being server-side rendering. This thesis aims to create a dynamic server-side rendering framework written in Swift based on the SwiftNIO (Vapor) framework. In the beginning, the thesis gives an introduction to the topic of server-side rendering, with a focus on frameworks like Phoenix LiveView and Hotwire/Turbo and their functionality. The second part of this thesis focuses on the Swift programming language and the tools it offers to implement the server-side rendering framework (SwiftNIO, Vapor). Lastly, we implement a demo application that uses the created framework. The result of the thesis is the SwiftLiveView framework, which allows users to create dynamic server-side rendered websites in the Swift programming language with support for different templating languages like Tokamak or Leaf.

Abstract:

Základnými požiadavkami na webové stránky sú rýchle prvotné načítanie, optimalizácia výkonu, ako aj dobrá optimalizácia pre vyhľadávače. Často používanou technikou pre dosiahnutie týchto výsledkov je generovanie webových stránok na strane servera. Táto práca si kladie za cieľ vytvoriť knižnicu pre generovanie dynamických webových stránok na strane servera, ktorá bude založená na technológií Swift NIO (Vapor). Úvodná časť práce sa zaoberá riešením problematiky generovania webových stránok na strane servera, pričom sa zameriava na knižnice Phoenix LiveView, Hotwire/Turbo a ich funkcionalitu. Druhá časť práce je zameraná na preštudovanie programovacieho jazyka Swift a nástrojov pre implementáciu serverových aplikácií v tomto jazyku (Swift NIO, Vapor). Následne navrhneme a implementujeme vlastnú knižnicu pre vykresľovanie dynamických webových stránok do HTML. V neposlednom rade naimplementujeme demonštračnú aplikáciu pre vytvorenú knižnicu. Výsledkom práce je knižnica SwiftLiveView, ktorá používateľom dovoľuje písať serverom generované dynamické webové aplikácie v jazyku Swift s podporou rôznych šablónovacích jazykov, ako sú Leaf a TokamakDOM.
