"Irregular" trilogy by Stanislav Komárek

Abstract:

Obsahem diplomové práce je analýza románové trilogie biologa, filozofa a prozaika Stanislava Komárka. Konkrétně jde o knihy Opšlstisova nadace (Brno: 2002), Černý domeček (Brno: 2004) a Mandaríni (Brno: 2007). Práce je rozdělená do devíti kapitol. První je věnována autobiografickým údajům autora, zasazení do kontextu současné české prózy, kritické reflexi a stručné charakterizaci děje jednotlivých próz. Druhá kapitola je pak zaměřena na vnější i vnitřní kompozici knihy, poetiku titulu, motta, členěni textu, paratexty. Obsahem třetí kapitoly je analýza nejdůležitějších témat a motivů, čtvrtou kapitolu tvoří typologie postav. V dalších kapitolách se věnujeme poetice fikčního prostoru a času a naratologické analýze. Tři závěrečné kapitoly jsou pak zaměřeny na téma iniciace, apokryfní texty a problematiku zobrazení historie ve fikci. Vzhledem k důležitosti, kterou v případě nepravidelné trilogie přisuzujeme autorské intenci, jsme se při analýze narativu přiklonili ke konceptu implicitního autora Wayna Bootha. Taktéž jsme pro přesnější zachycení autorské intence zohlednili další Komárkova díla, především soubory esejí.

Abstract:

The content of this master thesis is analysis of a novel trilogy by a Czech biologist, philosopher and prose writer Stanislav Komárek. Specifically it concerns following books: Opšlstisova nadace (Brno: 2002), Černý domeček (Brno: 2004) and Mandaríni (Brno: 2007). The thesis is devided into nine chapters. The first one deals with autobiography of the writer, his position in the context of contemporary Czech prose, critical reflection of his work and briefly characterizes a plot of the analysed texts. Chapter 2 is focused on micro and macro composition of the books, poetics of the title and motto, textual structure and paratexts. The content of the third chapter includes analysis of the most important topics and motives, the fourth one is devoted to character typology. In three remaining closing chapters we are focused on the topic of initiation, apocryphal texts and history depiction in fiction. In consideration of importance which we assign to the authorial intent in case of the irregular trilogy, we accept Wayne Booth´s implied author concept for the purpose of narrative analysis. We also allow for another Komárek´s works, mainly the essays collections, intending to capture more precise image of the authorial intent.
