Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá dopady mezinárodního obchodu na důchod a spotřebu v subsaharské Africe. Údaje pro tuto práci pochází z databází Světové banky a Mezinárodního měnového fondu. Práce pokrývá období od roku 2005 po 2018 a díky dostupnosti dat zahrnuje 25 zemí subsaharské Afriky. Mezi proměnné faktory modelu patří obchodní bilance, výdaje na konečnou spotřebu, HND na obyvatele podle parity kupní síly a další kontrolní proměnné. Pro každou ze závislých proměnných (příjem a spotřeba) byly vytvořeny dva obecné regresní OLS modely porovnání. Pro každou závislou proměnnou byly vypracovány modely pro roky 2005-2009 (před ekonomickou krizí a po ní), 2010-2014 (doba těsně po krizi) a 2015-2018 (delší období po krizi). V důsledku toho práce obsahuje celkem 8 různých modelů. Byly vytvořeny za účelem porozumění dynamice vlivu mezinárodního obchodu na příjem a spotřebu a určení, zda se vlivem ekonomické krize roku 2008 změnily tendence příjmu a spotřeby. První dva obecné modely ukazují, že mezinárodní obchod má pozitivní vliv na příjem, ale že spolu s ním se zmenšuje i spotřeba. Výsledky navazujících modelů kopírují tendence obecného modelu. Kvůli tomuto se práce v závěru zaměří i na některé strategické důsledky těchto zjištění a navrhne několik doporučení.

Abstract:

This thesis studies the effects of international trade on income and consumption in Sub-Saharan Africa. The data for the thesis was obtained from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund data banks. It covers the period between 2005 and 2018 and takes into consideration 25 countries from the Sub-Saharan African area due to the availability of data. The model variables include balance of trade, final consumption expenditure, GNI per capita based on purchasing power parity (PPP) and other control variables. Two general OLS multiple regression models are generated for both dependent variables (income and consumption) against their regressors. For each of the response variables, sub-models are additionally generated for 2005-2009 (before and during the financial crisis), 2010-2014 (immediate post-financial crisis), and 2015-2018 (long term post- financial crisis period).Consequently, the study has 8 different models in total and this was done in order to understand the dynamics of the effects that international trade has on income and consumption and to determine if there was any change in the trend of income and consumption as affected by international trade during the financial crisis of 2008. The results of the first two general models show that international trade has a positive impact on income but also showed that consumption decreases with trade. The results of the subsequent sub-models follow the same trend as the general model. Consequently, the study also looks at some policy implications of these findings and recommendations are proposed.
