Security of mobile applications developed on Android OS platform

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá možnostmi útoků na platformu s operačním systémem Android. V kontextu těchto útoků se pak práce zaměřuje zejména na dodatečnou bezpečnost již nainstalovaných vybraných aplikací. V teoretické části práce jsou shrnuty základní bezpečnostní principy a mechanismy, které Android nabízí, a analyzovány možné metody útoků na Android tzv. „zevnitř“. V praktické části práce je prověřena odolnost aplikací vůči běžně používaným metodám útoků – skrytému záznamu obrazovky a zaznamenávání stisků kláves. Součástí praktické části je vlastní implementace keyloggeru ukrytého v aplikaci klávesnice, který vznikl rozšířením populární aplikace klávesnice z Play Store. Závěrečná část práce pak popisuje zjištěná bezpečnostní pochybení, která byla nalezena v testovaných aplikacích, doplněná o přílohy záznamů obrazovek z nebezpečného chování aplikací.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the possibilities of attacks on the Android platform. In the context of these attacks, the thesis focuses mainly on the additional security of already installed selected applications. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the basic security principles and mechanisms offered by Android and analyzes the possible methods of attacks on Android from the inside. The practical part of the thesis tests the application's resistance to commonly used attack methods – hidden screen recording and keylogging. The own implementation of a keylogger hidden in the keyboard application is used for testing applications, which was created by extending the popular keyboard application from the Play Store. The final part of the thesis describes the detected security errors found in the tested applications, supplemented by screen recordings of dangerous application behaviour.
