The communication of a nurse with the bereaved

Abstract:

Cíl: Práce se zabývá komunikací ve zdravotnictví a to především komunikací sestry s pozůstalými. Cílem práce bylo reflektovat připravenost a nepřipravenost sester pro komunikaci s pozůstalými na Centrální jednotce intenzivní péče ve Slezské nemocnici v Opavě. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořil 20 sester pracujících na oddělení centrální intenzivní péče ve Slezské nemocnici v Opavě bez ohledu na délku praxe. Průzkum byl prováděn metodou dotazníkového šetření v měsíci únoru 2010. Výsledky: 70 % respondentek uvádí, že byly poučeny o komunikaci s pozůstalými, ovšem 80 % z nich shledává tyto vědomosti jako nedostatečné. Setkání a komunikaci s pozůstalými vnímá 80 % dotazovaných jako stresující. Své pocity při této komunikaci nedokáže většina sester dobře pojmenovat. Průběh komunikace se mezi dotazovanými sestrami výrazně neliší. Je zaměřen na předání pozůstalosti a informování o dalším postupu. 40 % sester přitom kondoluje. Z odpovědí je zřejmé, že respondentky nemají dostatečné znalosti o průběhu truchlení. 95 % sester by uvítala vyhrazenou místnost pro setkávání se s pozůstalými a 90 % má potřebu se dále v této oblasti vzdělávat. Závěr: Znalosti efektivní komunikace zdravotnických pracovníků s pozůstalými ovlivňují nejen psychický stav pozůstalých, ale také snižují psychickou zátěž u sester. Z výsledků šetření je patrné, že sestry nejsou dostatečně připraveny pro setkávání se s pozůstalými. Zároveň také upozorňují na žádost sester o další vzdělávání.

Abstract:

Aim: This work engages in the communication in public health, primary in the communication of nurses with bereaveds. The aim of the work was to reflect readiness and irreadiness of nurses to communicate with bereaveds on the central intensive care unit in the Silesian hospital in Opava.. Procedure: The reaserch group included 20 nurses working on the departure of central intensive care unit in the Silesian hospitál in Opava without regard to duration of their carrier experiences. The survey was conducted via questionnaire in February 2010. Results: 70 % of responders state that they were instructed in communication with bereaveds, admittedly 80 % of them assess this knowledge as insufficient. The encounter and communication with bereaveds perceive 80 % of respondent as stressful. The most of nurses can not desribe their emotions during this communication adequetly. The course of the communication is almost the same between responded nurses. It is focused on the delivery of property and informing of the next procedure. 40 % of nurses condole during this conversation. It is evident from thein answers that responders have insufficient knowledge about the course of mourning. 95 % of nurses would welcome a reserved room for encounter with bereaveds and 90 % of them have the need to educate in this field. Conclusions: The knowledge of effective communication of workers in health care with bereaveds influences the mental state of bereaveds, on the other hand it decreases mental load of nurses. The result of this study shows that nurses are not prepared enough to meet with bereaveds. Simultaneously it warns of the request of nurses for further education.
