Integration of hydrotherapy into the rehabilitation program following the surgical repair of the rotator cuff.

Abstract:

The lesions of the Rotator Cuff are quite ordinary in the current orthopaedic field and their surgical operation is often necessary in order to obtain favorable functional results according to Favard L, Bacle G, Berhouet J.; Williams G, Rockwood C, Bigliani L1-2. In those pathologies the rehabilitation has always had an essential importance: several studies3 deal with the execution of distinct rehabilitative programs in consequence of different surgical operations (Ghodadra NS, Wilk KE, Romeo AA. ), however the optimal way of a postoperative rehabilitation is still a discussion topic in the scientific world. The goal of our study consists of inspecting the effectiveness of the execution of hydrotherapy sessions in the rehabilitative program in patients surgically treated for the reinsertion of the Supraspinatus Muscle and tenotemy of the long head of the biceps and verifying if there are some statistically significant differences in the final therapeutic result obtained when patients are treated only in a gym compared with those ones who are treated in a gym and in a rehabilitative pool. Despite the big potentalities and the broad current diffusion of the hydrotherapy as a rehabilitative program in the outcomes of surgical operation of the Rotator Cuff, the usefulness is not clear and there are few studies which analyze the effectiveness of that.

Le lesioni della cuffia dei rotatori sono un?evenienza piuttosto comune nel mondo ortopedico odierno e, secondo Favard L, Bacle G, Berhouet J.; Williams G, Rockwood C, Bigliani L., la loro riparazione chirurgica č spesso necessaria al fine di ottenere convenienti risultati funzionali1-2. La riabilitazione, in queste patologie, assume da sempre importanza fondamentale: diversi studi3 affrontano l?effettuazione di programmi riabilitativi distinti in conseguenza di diversi interventi chirurgici (Ghodadra NS, Wilk KE, Romeo AA. ), tuttavia la forma ottimale di trattamento post-operatoria č ancora fonte di discussione nel mondo scientifico. Lo scopo del nostro studio č stato indagare l?efficacia dell?esecuzione di sedute di idroterapia nel programma riabilitativo dei pazienti operati di reinserzione del muscolo Sovraspinato e tenotomia del capo lungo del bicipite (CLB) e, verificare se esistono differenze statisticamente significative nel risultato terapeutico finale raggiunto da pazienti trattati solo in palestra rispetto a quelli trattati in palestra ed in piscina riabilitativa.
