Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá německou geopolitickou školou, jejím vlivem na německou expanzionistickou politiku a následně řeší debatu o geopolitice, která probíhala v průběhu 2. poloviny 20. století. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jak se tato debata a argumenty v ní zaznívající měnily v průběhu 2. poloviny 20. století, a jak tuto proměnu ovlivňoval historický kontext. Vzhledem k tomu, že mnozí autoři účastnící se debaty, viděli jasné propojení mezi samotnou geopolitikou a postupem nacistického Německa, řešila tato práce také otázku, jakým způsobem tato problematika ovlivnila geopolitiku jako disciplínu. První část práce, která je čistě deskriptivní, představuje vývoj německé geopolitické školy, počínaje jejími myšlenkovými předchůdci a koncepty, se kterými pracovali. Tyto koncepty byly následně přejímány autory německé geopolitické školy, kteří je využívali ve svých vlastních teoriích. Autoři německé geopolitické školy, v největší míře její zakladatel Karl Haushofer, a jejich vztah s představiteli nacistického Německa představují další předmět zájmu první části práce. Zbývající prostor první části je pak věnován způsobu, jakým nacistické Německo přejímalo myšlenky těchto autorů, dále samotné německé geopolitické škole a důvodům, na základě kterých se v německém meziválečném období etablovala. Druhá část práce, ve které je využita kompilační metoda pro sestavení názorů a argumentů autorů účastnících se debaty, se zabývá debatou o geopolitice, která odstartovala v roce 1947 a probíhala celou 2. polovinu 20. století. Prostřednictvím debaty o geopolitice se jeden tábor autorů snažil očistit geopolitiku jako disciplínu od všech negativních konotací a jejího spojování s nacistickým Německem, druzí naopak ztotožňovali geopolitiku se zahraniční politikou nacistického Německa a viděli ji jako hnací motor pro německé expanzionistické touhy. V této části práce je také hodnocen vliv německé geopolitické školy na německou expanzionistickou politiku v průběhu 20. století, jak tuto debatu ovlivnil historický kontext a jaké argumenty byly autory v této debatě používány a jak a pokud se časem měnily. V závěrečné části práce je zhodnoceno, zda a do jaké míry byla německá expanzionistická politika a představitelé nacistického Německa ovlivněni německou geopolitickou školou, jaký názor obecně převládal krátce po skončení 2. světové války, zda se tento názor postupem času měnil či neměnil a jak geopolitiku jako disciplínu ovlivnilo její spojování s nacistickým Německem. V práci bylo zjištěno, že vliv německé geopolitické školy na představitele nacistického Německa byl nejpatrnější v období 20. let 20. století, s tím, že jakmile se nacisté, v roce 1933, chopili moci, vliv geopolitiky značně klesl. Geopolitika jako disciplína byla tedy asociací s nacistickým Německem poskvrněna téměř dvě desetiletí od skončení 2. světové války, než začalo docházet k její postupné rehabilitaci.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis discusses the German school of geopolitics and its impact on German expansionist politics and also discusses the debate about geopolitics that took place during the second half of the twentieth century. The purpose of this study is to find out how this debate and the arguments involved in it changed during the second half of the twentieth century and how historical context impacted these changes. Because many of the authors involved in the debate saw a clear connection between geopolitics itself and the approach of Nazi Germany, this thesis also discussed the question of how this problem shaped geopolitics as a discipline. The first half of the thesis, which is strictly descriptive, represents the development of the German school of geopolitics, starting with the ancestors of the thought and concepts which they worked with. These concepts were then taken over by the authors of the German geopolitical school and later used by them in their theories. Authors of the German school of geopolitics, mostly the founder Karl Haushofer, and their relationship with the heads of Nazi Germany present another point of interest in the first half of the thesis. The remaining half of the thesis is devoted to how Nazi Germany took over the thoughts of these authors, the German school of geopolitics itself, and the reasons based on which the school was established in the German interwar period. The second half of the thesis, which is using the compilation method for organizing the arguments of the authors of the debate, is focused on the debate on geopolitics, which started in the year 1947 and continued throughout the second half of the twentieth century. Through the debate about geopolitics, one side of the authors tried to clarify geopolitics as a discipline from all the negative connotations and the connection with Nazi Germany, on the other hand, the second half of them identified geopolitics with the foreign policy of Nazi Germany and saw it as a driving force for German expansionist desires. This part of the thesis also judges the impact of the German school of geopolitics on German expansionist policy during the twentieth century, how was this debate influenced by historical context and which arguments were used, and how they changed over time. The last part of the thesis evaluates how and to what extent was German expansionist policy and the leaders of Nazi Germany influenced by the German school of geopolitics, what opinion, in general, prevailed after the end of the Second World War, and how this opinion changed or did not change over time and how was geopolitics influenced because of its connection to Nazi Germany. In the thesis was found that the influence of the German school of geopolitics on the leaders of Nazi Germany was most noticeable in the 1920s but after the Nazi party seized the power in the year 1933 the influence of geopolitics significantly decreased. Geopolitics as a discipline was therefore defiled because of the association with Nazi Germany for almost two decades after the end of the Second World War before the rehabilitation of the discipline started.
