TLong-term physiotherapy management of an elderly patient with a fibular fracture: a clinical case

Abstract:

Fibular fractures occur with high frequency in old patients, and physical therapy is an important part of any patient's rehabilitation plan, after breaking a bone. The work presented in this thesis describes the case study of a 70 years old man with fibular fracture. Patient underwent many physiotherapy sessions, characterized by short term and long term goals. At the end of the treatment period, it is possible to affirm that the patient took well the treatment, and he reached his starting goals. In general, the pathologies affecting the lower limbs of elderly patients can have very negative repercussions on the life of the patients themselves, especially if they are fractures that struggle to heal due to senile causes. Therefore, it is essential to intervene promptly and effectively in order to support the patient during healing and avoid the risk of relapse.

Abstract:

La frattura del perone ? un infortunio che si riscontra con una certa frequenza nella popolazione anziana. Un elemento fondamentale nel processo di recupero che segue l'evento traumatico ? la riabilitazione fisioterapica. Il paziente soggetto a frattura del perone deve sottoporsi ad una serie di sedute di fisioterapia, che consistono nell'esecuzione di esercizi di mobilizzazione della caviglia, attivit? di rinforzo muscolare e di miglioramento dell'equilibrio. Il seguente lavoro di tesi ha preso in esame il caso clinico di un paziente di 70 anni con frattura composta del perone. Il trattamento fisioterapico ? stato caratterizzato dal conseguimento di obiettivi a breve e lungo termine. Al termine del raggiungimento dei risultati auspicati inizialmente, il paziente ? stato sottoposto ad alcune sedute di fisioterapia preventiva, finalizzate a tutelare il soggetto dalla comparsa di successivi traumi provocati da recidive. In generale, le patologie a carico degli arti inferiori di pazienti anziani possono avere ripercussioni molto negative sulla vita dei pazienti stessi, soprattutto se si tratta di fratture che faticano a rimarginarsi per cause senili. Pertanto, ? fondamentale intervenire tempestivamente in modo efficace al fine di supportare il paziente durante la guarigione e scongiurare il rischio di recidiva.
