Premenstrual Syndrome in Women Working in Healthcare

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je premenstruační syndrom u žen pracujících ve zdravotnictví. Tato práce je rozdělena na dvě části, a to teoretickou a praktickou. V teoretické části je popsána definice syndromu, historie, účinky pohlavních hormonů, příznaky, projevy a léčba premenstruačního syndromu. Je zde také zmíněná premenstruační dysforická porucha. Dále jsou zmíněné nové poznatky o premenstruačním syndromu, které byly zjištěny od gynekologů a gynekoložek. Byli jim položeny otázky, které se týkají nových poznatků, léčby, a zda zdravotník vyhledává odbornou pomoc, když trpí premenstruačním syndromem. V neposlední řadě bylo zjišťováno, jaký mají zdravotníci názor na kolegy gynekology (gynekoložky), a zda chápou více ženu se syndromem, a jestli ji dokážou pochopit. Cíl bakalářské práce je zjistit, jestli ženy pracující ve zdravotnictví trpí premenstruačním syndromem. Celého průzkumu se zúčastnilo 51 respondentek z různých věkových kategoriích od 15–50 let. Dotazníky byly rozeslány ženám, které pracují na chirurgickém oddělení, chirurgie JIP a ARO. Z výsledků vyplívá, že více žen má spíše fyzické projevy než psychické. Dále z dat vyplývá, že ženy spíše využívají konzervativní léčbu, než aby zkusily farmakoterapii.

Abstract:

The subject of this bachelor thesis is premenstrual syndrome in women working in the healthcare sector. This work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part describes the definition of the syndrome, the history, the effects of sex hormones, the symptoms, the manifestations and the treatment of premenstrual syndrome. There is also mentioned premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Then there are the new findings on premenstrual syndrome which have been identified from gynecologists and they are also mentioned there. They were asked questions releated to new findings, treatment and whether the health professional seeks help when suffering from PMS. Last but not least is their opinion about fellow gynecologists and whether they understand a woman with the syndrome better and whether they can understand her. The aim of this bachelor´s thesis is to find out if women working in the healthcare sector suffer from premenstrual syndrome. 51 female respondents took part in the survey ranging in age from 15-50. Questionnaires were sent to women working in the surgical department, ICU surgery and ARO. The results show that more women have physical symptoms rather than psychological ones. Furthermore, the data show that women are more likely to use conservative treatment than to try pharmacotherapy.
