Influence of free fare on the structure of transport demand

Abstract:

The thesis aims to detect what was the impact on a demand structure of introducing free fare transportation for students and retired people. The first section presents the evolu-tion of the Slovak railway. The second section describes examined track, which was cho-sen to achieve the goal of the thesis. In the third part, readers can find examples of the countries which experience with free fare transportation. The results of the thesis are based on an own survey, which investigated travellers´ reactions on a situation if the free fare transportation would be cancelled

Abstract:

Cieľom práce je určiť, aké dopady malo zavedenie bezplatnej dopravy pre študentov a seniorov na štruktúru dopytu po preprave. Prvá časť práce sa venuje vývoju železničnej politiky na Slovensku. Druhá časť popisuje skúmanú trasu, Žilina – Košice, ktorá bola vy-braná pre dosiahnutie cieľa práce. V tretej časti sú použité príklady iných krajín, ktoré majú skúsenosť s bezplatnou prepravou. Výsledky práce sú založené na vlastnom dotaz-níkovom šetrení, ktoré zisťovalo názory cestujúcich v prípade, že by sa bezplatná prepra-va zrušila, a následne ich reakcie na dve hypotetické situácie.
