Testing of the effectiveness of protective coating materials for preventing prowsing of woody species by Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber)

Abstract:

Testování efektivity ochranných nátěrů před ohryzem dřevin bobrem evropským (Castor fiber) Bakalářská práce se věnuje testování účinnosti čtyř ochranných nátěrů před ohryzem dřevin bobrem evropským a vyhodnocení nejefektivnějšího z nich. Testován byl komerční přípravek Wöbra, směs Aversolu s látkou bitrex, směs Aversolu s bitrexem a křemičitým pískem a abrazivní nátěr, jehož složení prozatím podléhá obchodnímu tajemství. Účinnost nátěrů byla testována v lužních lesích, kde je výskyt bobra evropského dlouhodobý. Testování probíhalo na stojících stromech a částečně také na předložených kmenech s předem aplikovaným nátěrem. Nejefektivnějším z testovaných ochranných nátěrů byl komerční přípravek značky Wöbra. Ten byl absolutně účinný ve 100 % případů jeho užití. Další přípravky vykazovaly mírně sníženou účinnost, a to do 80 %.

Abstract:

Testing of the effectiveness of protective coating materials for preventing prowsing of woody species by Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber) This bachelor thesis deals with testing of the effectiveness of four protective coating materials for preventing browsing of woody species by the European beaver and evaluating the most effective one. Tested were commercial product Wöbra, a mix of Aversol and a material bitrex, a mix of Aversol, bitrex and silica sand, and abrasive coating material, compounds of which are a business secret. The effectiveness of these coating materials was tested in the floodplain forests, where is a long-term occurrence of the European beaver. The testing took place on standing trees, and partially on pre-felled trunks that were treated with the coating materials beforehand. The most effective of the tested protective coating materials was the commercial product Wöbra. This material was effective in 100 % of the cases of its use. Other materials showed slightly lowered effectiveness, as low as 80 %.
