Flight activity of bats in agricultural landscape

Abstract:

S rozvojem zemědělství a zvyšujícími se nároky na produkci byla tradičně obhospodařovaná krajina vystavena mnoha změnám. Pestrá mozaika drobných polí, luk a pastvin byla nahrazena rozsáhlými lány s několika málo druhy plodin, čímž byla podstatně snížena různorodost krajiny. Právě heterogenita krajiny má však významný vliv na její biodiverzitu, která je zásadní pro zachování správné funkce ekosystémů. Důležitou součástí ekosystémů jsou také netopýři, kteří jsou významnými predátory nočního hmyzu, a mohou tak poskytovat významné ekosystémové služby mimo jiné i v zemědělské krajině. Tato diplomová práce se zabývá porovnáním aktivity netopýrů ve dvou rozdílných typech zemědělské krajiny, a to na jižní Moravě, kde byla krajina historicky ovlivněna socialistickým režimem a pole byla scelena do velkých lánů, a v Dolním Rakousku, kde bylo po vzoru západní Evropy zachováno tržní zemědělství a byla zde zachována pole s menší rozlohou a pestřejší mozaikou pěstovaných plodin. Terénní výzkum spočíval v monitoringu aktivity netopýrů pomocí ultrazvukového detektoru v obou oblastech. Monitoring probíhal na 12 liniových transektech, které byly monitorovány opakovaně během sezony. Dále byl rozšířen o 10 jednorázově monitorovaných liniových transektů. Analýzou dat nebyl potvrzen statisticky významný vliv velikosti krajinného dílu, indexu diverzity habitatu ani procentuálního zastoupení větrolamů na aktivitu netopýrů, ale mezi studovanými oblastmi byly pozorovány odlišnosti. Byla zjištěna vyšší abundance u větrolamů oproti otevřené polní krajině. V Dolním Rakousku byly zaznamenané druhy zastoupeny rovnoměrněji než na jižní Moravě a většina druhů zde měla i vyšší abundanci. V Dolním Rakousku byla také zaznamenána vyšší průměrná relativní aktivita netopýrů oproti jižní Moravě.

Abstract:

Due to the development of agriculture and increasing production demands, the traditionally maintained landscape was exposed to a number of changes. The colourful patchwork of small fields, meadows and pastures was replaced by vast fields with just a few types of crops, which considerably reduced landscape het-erogeneity. And it is the landscape heterogeneity that has a significant influence on the biodiversity, which is essential for maintaining the correct functions of ecosystems. Bats are also an important part of the ecosystems. They are signifi-cant predators of nocturnal insects, thus providing substantial ecosystem ser-vices in the agricultural landscape, among other things. This diploma thesis deals with the comparison of bat activity in two various types of agricultural landscape. First is the landscape of South Moravia, where it was influenced by the socialist regime and the small fields were connected to large arable tracts. Second is the landscape of Lower Austria, which maintained market agriculture, following the example of the rest of Western Europe, which means smaller fields with greater variety of grown crops. Field research was based on monitoring of bat activity, using an ultrasonic detector in both areas. The monitoring took place in 12 line transects, which were repeatedly monitored throughout the season. Apart from that, 10 line transects monitored only once were included in the field research. Data analysis did not confirm any statistically significant influence of neither the mean patch size, nor the habitat diversity index, nor the percentage of wind-breakers on the bat activity, although differences were spotted between the stud-ied areas. Greater bat abundance was detected in the vicinity of windbreakers as opposed to the open field landscape. In Lower Austria, the detected species were spread more evenly than in South Moravia, and the majority of the species was of greater abundance too. Additionally, greater mean relative bat activity was rec-orded in Lower Austria than in South Moravia.
