Building Basic Literacy in Deaf Children Using SignWriting System

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá budováním předčtenářské gramotnosti neslyšících dětí s využitím systému SignWriting. Výzkumný projekt zjišťuje, zda jsou již děti v předškolním věku schopny globálně vnímat zápisy jednotlivých znaků, zapsaných pomocí systému SignWriting a spojit si tento zápis s významem znaku. Bakalářská práce je rozčleněna do tří kapitol. První kapitola se zabývá teoreticky sluchovým postižením, jazykovým vývojem neslyšících a problémy nabývání gramotnosti neslyšících. Druhá kapitola je zaměřena na systém SignWriting, jeho popis, systém zápisu a možností získávání gramotnosti s využitím tohoto systému. Třetí kapitola popisuje výzkumný projekt, cíl a metodologii projektu, charakteristiku výzkumného souboru, vlastní šetření a závěry šetření. Výzkumný projekt, který probíhal v MŠ pro sluchově postižené, potvrzuje, že již děti předškolního věku jsou schopny rozlišit zapsané znaky českého znakového jazyka pomocí systému SignWriting.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the development of building basic literacy in deaf children using SignWriting system. The research project tries to determine whether pre-school children are able to distinguish globally individual signs notated in SignWriting system, and whether they can associate such notation with the meaning of the sign. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first, theoretical chapter adrdesses the issues of hearing impairment, language development in deaf people and the difficulties with the literacy acquisition process in the deaf. The second chapter focuses on a the system of SignWriting, its description, its notation system, and the possibilities of acquiring literacy with the use of this system. The third chapter describes the research project, the goal of the project and the used methodology, the characteristics of the research sample, own investigation and the findings of the investigation. The research project, which took place in a nursery school for the deaf, has confirmed that pre-school children are able to distinguish Czech sign language signs notated in SignWriting system.
