Creating a mobile application for displaying spherical photos in virtual reality

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na vývoj mobilní aplikace pro zobrazení sférických fotografií ve virtuální realitě, která je určena k obohacení výuky zeměpisu ve školách. Práce popisuje historický vývoj virtuální reality, její významné milníky a současné využití ve vzdělávání. Hlavní důraz je kladen na návrh a vývoj aplikace, která využívá technologii Google Cardboard pro snadné a dostupné zobrazení sférických fotografií na chytrých telefonech. Praktická část práce se věnuje podrobnému popisu vývoje aplikace, včetně implementace interaktivních prvků, optimalizace uživatelského rozhraní a integrace vzdělávacích materiálů. Testování aplikace proběhlo za účasti několika učitelů, jejichž zpětná vazba byla klíčová pro finální úpravy a vylepšení. Aplikace byla vyvinuta s cílem zvýšit zapojení a motivaci studentů prostřednictvím interaktivního a pohlcujícího zážitku, který poskytuje hlubší porozumění geografickým jevům a procesům. Práce zkoumá výhody používání VR při výuce, ale také identifikuje výzvy a omezení, jako jsou vysoké náklady na zařízení, technice problémy a možná zdravotní rizika. Celkově ale tato bakalářská práce dokazuje, že VR má veliký potenciál pro modernizaci vzdělávání a může přispět k vytvoření interaktivního a motivujícího učebního prostředí.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the development of a mobile application for displaying spherical photos in virtual reality, aimed at enriching geography education in schools. The thesis describes the historical development of virtual reality, its significant milestones, and its current use in education. The main emphasis is on the design and development of an application that utilizes Google Cardboard technology for easy and accessible viewing of spherical photos on smartphones. The practical part of the thesis details the development of the application, including the implementation of interactive elements, user interface optimization, and the integration of educational materials. The application was tested with the participation of several teachers, whose feedback was crucial for final adjustments and improvements. The application was developed to increase student engagement and motivation through an interactive and immersive experience that provides a deeper understanding of geographical phenomena and processes. The thesis explores the advantages of using VR in education but also identifies challenges and limitations, such as high equipment costs, technical issues, and potential health risks. Overall, this bachelor's thesis demonstrates that VR has great potential for modernizing education and can contribute to creating an interactive and motivating learning environment.
