In this thesis we will describe the theory of continued fractions. We become acquainted with theoretical knowledge, but also with applications in various areas of mathematics. V této práci se budeme věnovat teorii řetězových zlomků. Seznámíme se s teoretickými poznatky, ale také s aplikacemi v různých oblastech matematiky. Práce je rozvržena do čtyř kapitol. První kapitola obsahuje úvod do problematiky řetězových zlomků, výklad základních pojmů a některé základní vlastnosti.
