Contemporary Indian Cuisine and Its Infuence On British Gastronomy

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská práce, jak již napovídá její samotný název, pojednává o současné indické kuchyni a jejím vlivu na britskou gastronomii. V teoretické části práce jsou vymezeny základní pojmy související s indickou a britskou gastronomií; je zde stručně popsán historický vývoj Indie a její gastronomie ve vztahu k Velké Británii. Analytická část obsahuje cílený dotazník zaměřený na zjištění popularity indické kuchyně u osob žijících ve Velké Británii. Druhá polovina této části práce je věnována analýze jídelních lístků vybraných britských restaurací, u nichž byl zkoumán vliv indické kuchyně na britskou gastronomii. Cílem bylo zjistit procentuální zastoupenost indické kuchyně v jídelních lístcích typicky britských restauracích nabízejících primárně místní (britskou) kuchyni, a to s cílem demonstrovat skutečnost, že se některé prvky indické kuchyně již nepochybně staly integrální součástí britské gastronomie.

Abstract:

The present Bachelor's Dissertation, as its name already suggests, deals with the contemporary Indian cuisine and its influence on the British gastronomy. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the essential terms connected with the Indian and British gastronomy; including a brief introduction to the Indian history and gastronomy in relation to the United Kingdom. The analytical part of the paper contains a targeted survey completed by residents of the United Kingdom, examining the popularity of Indian cuisine among these respondents. The second half of this part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of the menus of particular British restaurants, where the influence of Indian cuisine on British gastronomy is examined. The aim of the present paper has been to invastigate the percentage presence of Indian cuisine on the menus of typically British restaurants offering primarily local (British) dishes, trying to demonstrate that certain elements of Indian cuisine have already become an integral part of the British gastronomy.
